President William Ruto will today roll out the NYOTA Project
\n(National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement) programme in Samburu County.<\/p>\n
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, senior government
\nofficials and lawmakers will accompany Ruto<\/p>\n
Nyota is designed to provide seed capital to young
\nentrepreneurs, enabling them to start or expand businesses while supporting job
\ncreation at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n
The government on Monday disbursed Sh173.2 million to
\nstartups under Nyota in Central Kenya.<\/p>\n
The funding targets 6,982 entrepreneurs across Nyeri,
\nMurang\u2019a, Nyandarua and Kirinyaga counties under the five-year programme
\nsupported by the World Bank.<\/p>\n
The funds were handed over during an event at the Kabiru-ini
\nASK Grounds in Nyeri, attended by Ruto. <\/p>\n
The President said the programme is based on merit and not
\npolitical affiliation, amid criticism that the initiative could be used for
\npolitical mobilisation.<\/p>\n
The Nyota programme has already been rolled out in Kakamega,
\nEldoret and Nakuru counties.<\/p>\n
Further disbursements have been planned for Meru, Machakos,
\nNairobi, the Coast and Nyanza regions.<\/p>\n
Koome to swear in two
\nJudicial Service Commission commissioners<\/p>\n
Chief Justice Martha Koome will preside over the swearing in
\nof two Commissioners of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).<\/p>\n
Lady Justice Njoki Ndungu was recently elected by the Judges
\nof the Supreme Court as their Representative at the JSC, while Chief Magistrate
\nEverlyne Olwande was re-elected for a second term by members of the Kenya
\nMagistrates and Judges Association. Her first 5-year-term comes to an end
\ntomorrow.<\/p>\n
The swearing-in will take place at JSC offices \u2013 CBK Pension
\nTowers at 8am.<\/p>\n
JSC is an independent body, established by a nation’s
\nconstitution (like Kenya’s Article 171), tasked with promoting judiciary
\nindependence, accountability, and efficient justice administration by handling
\njudge\/officer appointments, discipline, training, and advising the government on
\njustice system improvements.<\/p>\n
Joint Parliamentary energy
\ncommittees to discuss Turkana oil production plans<\/p>\n
Joint Committee of Departmental Committee on Energy and
\nSenate Standing Committee on Energy will meet Kenya’s to discuss plans to
\ncommercially produce oil from discoveries in Turkana County.<\/p>\n
The lawmakers will meet Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, railway
\nand road agencies (KeNHA, KURA, KeRRA, KRC and NTSA) to deliberate on the South Lokichar Field Development Plan.<\/p>\n
The meeting will take place at the Mini Chambers in Parliament Buildings at
\n9.30 am.<\/p>\n
The approved South Lokichar Field Development Plan (FDP)
\noutlines a phased, $6.1 billion (Sh780 billion) project for Blocks T6 & T7,
\naiming for first oil by December 2026, ramping up to 50,000 barrels\/day by
\n2032, with Gulf Energy as operator.<\/p>\n
The plan focuses on early production, utilizing road\/rail
\ntransport initially instead of a new pipeline, leveraging local content for
\njobs and services, and involving joint development of fields like Amosing,
\nNgamia, and Twiga to boost economic viability.<\/p>\n
The two energy committees are reviewing the plan and
