The Kenya Meteorological Department
\nhas told Kenyans to brace for sunny and dry conditions across most parts of the country in a weather forecast for the week of January 13 to January 19, 2026.<\/p>\n


\n
\nAccording to the forecast, residents
\nin several regions can expect clear skies and dry weather for the majority of
\nthe week. <\/p>\n


\n
\nHowever, occasional rainfall is
\nlikely in a few areas, particularly the Highlands east and west of the Rift
\nValley, the Rift Valley itself, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coastal region, and
\nthe southeastern lowlands.<\/p>\n


\n
\n\u201cDaytime temperatures are expected
\nto rise above 30\u00b0C in the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya. Parts
\nof the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and Western Kenya will also
\nexperience hot conditions,\u201d the department noted.<\/p>\n


\n
\nIn contrast, cooler nights are
\nexpected in some parts of the country, with minimum temperatures dropping below
\n10\u00b0C. <\/p>\n


\n
\nThis is particularly likely in the
\nCentral Highlands, the North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas
\nnear Mount Kilimanjaro.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe meteorological department also
\nreleased a broader January 2026 climate outlook. <\/p>\n


\n
\nIt indicates that most regions will
\ncontinue to experience sunny and dry conditions throughout the month. <\/p>\n


\n
\nNevertheless, occasional rainfall
\nmay occur in western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Southern Rift Valley,
\nparts of the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County,
\nthe southeastern lowlands, and southern coastal areas.<\/p>\n


\n
\nResidents and travelers are advised
\nto plan their activities accordingly, taking note of the high daytime
\ntemperatures in the hotter regions and the cooler nights in elevated areas. <\/p>\n


\n
\nFarmers, particularly in areas
\nexpecting rain, are encouraged to prepare for localized showers that may affect
\nagricultural activities.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe Kenya Meteorological Department
\nurged the public to stay updated on weather alerts and advisories, particularly
\nfor regions prone to sudden rainfall or temperature fluctuations.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe agency also called on national and county authorities, as well as
\nhumanitarian agencies, to take early action to avert potential loss of lives
\nand livelihoods. <\/p>\n


\n
\nIn its latest outlook, the agency cautioned that the prolonged dryness is
\nlikely to worsen food insecurity as the availability of food, water and pasture
\ncontinues to decline. <\/p>\n


\n
\n\u201cThe current dry conditions being experienced over the northern and parts of
\nthe eastern sectors of the country are expected to exacerbate. The limited
\npasture and water over the ASAL areas may lead to resource-based conflicts
\namong pastoral and farming communities,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n


\n
\nAccording to the weatherman, the situation could also trigger an increase in
\nmalnutrition-related diseases, especially in northern Kenya, where vulnerable
\npopulations are already under strain. <\/p>\n


\n
\nKenya Met advised that contingency plans be put in place to ensure the
\ntimely provision of food and nutritional supplements to the most at-risk
\ncommunities. <\/p>\n


\n
\nThe department further warned that the extended dry spell may result in reduced
\nwater levels in reservoirs, lakes and ponds. <\/p>\n


\n
\nThis, it said, could create favourable conditions for wildfires in forests,
\nnational parks and reserves, posing an additional threat to ecosystems and
\nnearby communities. <\/p>\n


\n
\nTo
\nmitigate this risk, authorities have been urged to provide fodder and establish
\nwatering points for wildlife to reduce competition with local communities.<\/p>\n


\n
\nAdditionally, Kenya Met cautioned that high temperatures could lead to heat
\nstress and related discomforts such as headaches and fatigue. <\/p>\n


\n
\nMembers of the public have been advised to stay well hydrated, limit
\nexposure to direct sunlight and avoid strenuous outdoor activities,
