{"id":21528,"date":"2026-01-13T20:59:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T20:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/21528\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T20:59:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T20:59:08","slug":"umahi-lauds-progress-on-lagos-ibadan-expressway-orders-january-deadline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/21528\/","title":{"rendered":"Umahi Lauds Progress on Lagos\u2013Ibadan Expressway, Orders January Deadline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/6966a2b510057.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of rehabilitation and expansion work on Section One of the Lagos\u2013Ibadan Expressway, directing contractors to complete the project by the end of January.\n        <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Speaking during an inspection of the 12-kilometre stretch between Sagamu Interchange and Iperu Junction in Ogun State, <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Umahi said the contractor had already exceeded expectations despite receiving only part of the contract sum.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"753\" data-start=\"549\" style=\"text-align:justify\">\u201cI am very satisfied with the quality of work and the speed of work,\u201d the minister said. \u201cWe paid only 30 per cent of the contract amount, but I can assure you they have done over 50 per cent of the job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1006\" data-start=\"755\" style=\"text-align:justify\">The section, built with rigid pavement, includes five pedestrian bridges, four ramps and three underpasses. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Umahi instructed the contractor to complete protective shoulder works with laterite, even if not originally captured in the bill of quantities.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1229\" data-start=\"1008\" style=\"text-align:justify\">\u201cWhether it is in the bill or not, we are not paying for it. It is called protective work,\u201d he said. \u201cThere must be a minimum of 1.5 metres to protect the pavement. If you don\u2019t, water will get into it and it will break.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1438\" data-start=\"1231\" style=\"text-align:justify\">He also ordered immediate construction of drainage systems and the installation of solar streetlights. \u201cBy the end of this month, we should have everything about this 24km road fully completed,\u201d Umahi added.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1635\" data-start=\"1440\" style=\"text-align:justify\">The minister also inspected the 48-kilometre Benin\u2013Ofosu\u2013Ore\u2013Sagamu dual carriageway, which runs from Iperu Junction to Ajebandele, linking Ogun State to Ondo and the eastern part of the country.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1779\" data-start=\"1637\" style=\"text-align:justify\">Umahi said parts of the Ore\u2013Benin Road were in good condition but raised concerns about sections being handled under a concession arrangement.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"2060\" data-start=\"1781\" style=\"text-align:justify\">\u201cFrom Benin to Summit Junction in Asaba is being done by a concessionaire, African Plus.
