Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has framed the NYOTA youth empowerment
\nprogramme as a key tool for steering young people away from political
\nexploitation and social unrest, arguing that economic opportunity is the most
\neffective response to youth frustration.<\/p>\n

Speaking to beneficiaries of the programme, Kindiki said the government\u2019s
\nfocus on enterprise support reflects a deliberate effort to convert Kenya\u2019s
\nyouthful population into a driver of stability and growth rather than a source
\nof unrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung people are a great asset of our country because many countries have an ageing population but ours is young and energetic and willing to work to build
\nour country,\u201d Kindiki said.<\/p>\n

He said the administration is fulfilling promises made during the election
\ncampaign by rolling out targeted empowerment programmes that provide both
\ncapital and institutional backing. <\/p>\n

According to the Deputy President, such initiatives are meant to give young
\npeople alternatives to political mobilisation that often leads to violence and
\ndestruction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President promised to empower the youths during campaigns and through
\nNYOTA programme and other empowerment programmes, he is fulfilling the
\npromise,\u201d Kindiki said.<\/p>\n

Under the NYOTA programme, beneficiaries receive Sh50,000 in start-up
\ncapital to establish or expand small businesses. <\/p>\n

Kindiki acknowledged criticism over the size of the grant but maintained
\nthat the funding is intended as seed capital that can unlock entrepreneurship
\nwhen used responsibly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are giving 50,000 shillings as start-up capital. It will make a huge
\ndifference in their businesses,\u201d he said, adding that the government will
\ncontinue to work with beneficiaries to improve their chances of success.<\/p>\n

The Deputy President said Kenya\u2019s youth possess diverse talents across
\nbusiness, academics and sports, and that the state\u2019s role is to create an
\nenabling environment in which those abilities can translate into livelihoods. <\/p>\n

He urged young people to view the programme as a stepping stone rather than
\nan entitlement.<\/p>\n

Kindiki also took aim at opposition leaders, accusing them of mobilising
\nyouth for confrontational politics instead of economic empowerment. <\/p>\n

He warned that such approaches undermine both personal progress and national
\ncohesion.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur opponents should stop inciting the youth to destroy the country and to
\nattack their rivals instead of supporting them to build better livelihoods,\u201d he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

He insisted that sustained investment in youth enterprise is central to the
\ngovernment\u2019s development agenda, saying programmes like NYOTA are designed not
\nonly to reduce unemployment but also to foster social stability by giving young
