Other footage captures groups fighting in different corners, while individuals are heard shouting and screaming.

In one particularly alarming moment, a young man is seen falling in front of a moving vehicle, narrowly avoiding being run over as the driver brakes suddenly. The videos also include loud popping sounds, which many online users initially believed to be gunshots, adding to the panic reflected in the footage.

However, accounts from individuals claiming to have been at the scene suggest a different sequence of events leading up to the chaos. According to a widely shared Facebook comment, taxis reportedly arrived at the parking lot playing loud music, drawing a crowd of around 200 young people who began dancing.

The situation allegedly escalated after a cellphone was stolen.

The same account disputes claims of gunfire, suggesting that the loud noises heard were not gunshots but rather the backfiring of an older model Nissan 1400 bakkie.

Despite the viral nature of the footage, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has indicated that it has no official record of the incident. Authorities have also not confirmed whether any gunshots were fired, leaving some uncertainty around the events captured on video.

In response to media enquiries, N1 City Mall stated: “The safety and security of our shoppers, tenants and staff remains our highest priority,” the mall said in a statement.

“The police are investigating, and the mall will continue to work closely with law enforcement and support their efforts in every way possible. All further enquiries should be directed to SAPS.”

VIDEOS circulating widely on social media have sparked concern after scenes of apparent chaos unfolded during an alleged…

[52
29914,4370,102304,7563,111567,24090,131,1689,29910,6614,4582,1360,6102,14650,29907
0":"post-218908","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-south-africa","8":"tag-crime-and-court","9":"tag-facebook","10":"tag-https-capeargus-co-za-weekend-argus","11":"tag-metro-police","12":"tag-n1-city-mall","13":"tag-nissan","14":"tag-south-africa","15":"tag-south-african-police-service","16":"tag-tracy-lynn-ruitersinl-co-za","17":"tag-video","18":"tag-videos","19":"tag-violence","20":"tag-viral","21":"tag-viral-video","22":"tag-weekend-argus
["GET
