{"id":218954,"date":"2026-05-04T21:57:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T21:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/218954\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T21:57:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T21:57:14","slug":"man-dies-while-fishing-daily-sun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/218954\/","title":{"rendered":"Man dies while fishing! | Daily Sun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1d7d14d57203471796d77932e0f0df3a.jpg\" alt=\"A 34-year-old man has drowned after he went fishing with two friends.\" height=\"788\" width=\"940\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n                    A 34-year-old man has drowned after he went fishing with two friends.&#13;\n                <\/p>\n<p>A NIGHT fishing trip ends in tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>This after a man drowned while trying to swim across the Xingwedzi River outside Malamulele, Limpopo.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old man, identified as Mathew Chauke, passed away in Mtititi Altein area on Saturday, 2 May, at about 9.15pm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was fishing with two friends when the deadly incident happened.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One of the men crossed to the opposite side of the river and called for Chauke to join him.<\/p>\n<p>Chauke entered the water and tried to swim across, but it was a fatal mistake.<\/p>\n<p>He struggled midstream and disappeared beneath the surface as his friends watched helplessly.<\/p>\n<p>They pulled him from the water and tried desperately to save him, but it was too late.<\/p>\n<p>ALSO READ | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snl24.com\/dailysun\/news\/an-anc-member-was-arrested-in-sandton-for-impersonation-drunk-driving-and-illegal-blue-lights-20260503\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fong kong blue light couple bust!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said: &#8220;Malamulele police have opened an inquest docket following the drowning of a 34-year-old male at Mtititi Altein, Xingwedzi River on Saturday, 02 May 2026 at about 21:15.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Police were on routine patrol duties when they received a complaint of a drowning incident at the river and rushed to the scene. On arrival, they were informed by two witnesses that they&#8217;d been fishing with the victim when the incident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s alleged that one of the men crossed to the opposite side of the Xingwedzi River and called the deceased to join him. While attempting to swim across, the 34-year-old got into difficulty and drowned.
