{"id":21927,"date":"2026-01-14T02:01:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T02:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/21927\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T02:01:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T02:01:15","slug":"absconding-father-remanded-over-death-of-seven-year-old-daughter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/21927\/","title":{"rendered":"Absconding father remanded over death of seven-year-old daughter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Joyce Danso<\/p>\n<p>Accra, Jan. 13, GNA \u2013 The Gbese District Court Tuesday remanded a 40-year-old acrobat, Henry Amartey, into police custody for allegedly causing the death of his seven-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Amartey is accused of repeatedly assaulting the child over bedwetting.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution said on November 1, 2024, Amartey assaulted the child until she became unconscious and left her unattended before absconding.<\/p>\n<p>The victim was later rushed to a hospital but passed away on January 12, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Her body was deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.<\/p>\n<p>Charged with murder, the court did not take Amartey\u2019s plea and remanded him into police custody.<\/p>\n<p>He is expected to reappear on February 26, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecution, led by Inspector Richard Ackumey, prayed the court to remand the accused, stating that a duplicate docket had been forwarded to the Attorney-General\u2019s Department for advice.<\/p>\n<p>The relieving Judge, Mrs Bernice Ackon, granted the request and directed the prosecution to expedite processes to ensure a speedy trial.<\/p>\n<p>Defence Counsel, Mr Doe Kwabena Azaho, prayed the court to grant bail and also urged for an expedited trial.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution told the court that the complainant, Olivia Aryee, a trader residing at Korle Gonno, was a former girlfriend of the accused and the mother of the deceased, Stella Amartey.<\/p>\n<p>After the relationship ended, Amartey allegedly took the child to live with him and his new girlfriend, identified as Kailey, at Chorkor, near the seashore.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution said the child was a bedwetter and was subjected to frequent beatings by the accused.<\/p>\n<p>On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly assaulted the child until she lost consciousness and he left the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution said the child was later discovered by a neighbour, Helen Quaye, who raised the alarm, leading to the victim being rushed to the Irene Jones Nelson Memorial Clinic at Chorkor.<\/p>\n<p>On January 12, 2024, the victim passed on and her body was deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.<\/p>\n<p>A post-mortem examination conducted on January 17, 2024, by Dr Blankson Aboagye, a pathologist, gave the cause of death as raised intracranial pressure, left subdural haemorrhage and blunt head injury due to assault.<\/p>\n<p>Amartey was arrested on December 24, 2025, after months on the run.<\/p>\n<p>GNA<\/p>\n<p>Edited by Agnes Boye-Doe<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"By Joyce Danso Accra, Jan. 13, GNA \u2013 The Gbese District Court Tuesday remanded a 40-year-old acrobat, Henry&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":21928,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[28],"tags":[79,909],"class_list":{"0":"post-21927","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-ghana","8":"tag-ghana","9":"tag-greater-accra-region"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21927","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=21927"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21927\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/21928"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=21927"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=21927"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=21927"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
