{"id":221313,"date":"2026-05-06T10:39:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T10:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/221313\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T10:39:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T10:39:08","slug":"tanzania-kenya-sign-eight-agreements-to-strengthen-economic-cooperation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/221313\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanzania, Kenya Sign Eight Agreements to Strengthen Economic Cooperation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t  \t&#13;<br \/>\nAgreements cover trade and infrastructure cooperation&#13;<br \/>\nCountries plan gas pipeline feasibility study linking Dar es Salaam and Mombasa&#13;<br \/>\nKenya and Tanzania target removing trade barriers by June 2026&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"textearticle\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tanzania and Kenya signed eight cooperation agreements on Monday, according to the Tanzanian presidency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"textearticle\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agreements were signed during Kenyan President William Ruto\u2019s two-day visit to Tanzania and cover railway cooperation, a feasibility study for a natural gas pipeline linking Dar es Salaam and Mombasa, and cooperation on criminal investigations and legal assistance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"textearticle\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The deals also include agriculture, mutual recognition of seafarer certifications, maritime transport, standards harmonization between Zanzibar and Kenya, and training for public servants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"textearticle\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Trade and investment<\/p>\n<p class=\"textearticle\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bilateral trade between Tanzania and Kenya totaled\u00a0$860.3 million in 2025. The two countries aim to generate an additional 130 billion Kenyan shillings ($1 billion) in trade and 65 billion shillings in cross-border investment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"textearticle\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ruto said achieving that goal would require removing obstacles to the free movement of people, goods and services.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Kenya and Tanzania have set a target of KSh130 billion in new trade and KSh65 billion in fresh cross-border investments.
