{"id":2221,"date":"2026-01-04T07:26:35","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T07:26:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/2221\/"},"modified":"2026-01-04T07:26:35","modified_gmt":"2026-01-04T07:26:35","slug":"key-suspect-in-angata-barrikoi-murder-arrested-after-months-long-manhunt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/2221\/","title":{"rendered":"Key suspect in Ang\u2019ata Barrikoi murder arrested after months-long manhunt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/dab9a4f2-add1-4eea-8935-d7f286f33353.png\" class=\"ui-draggable ui-draggable-handle\" style=\"max-width: 100%; width: 100%;\"\/>Arrest\/File\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Detectives from the Operations Action Team (OAT), working in collaboration with their counterparts from Transmara South, have arrested the prime suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old man in Ang\u2019ata Barrikoi, Narok County.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was arrested on December 31, 2025, in Lolgorian following a sustained manhunt that began after the killing of Charles Korir on the night of August 13, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>According to police reports, the incident occurred near Loliondo Farm in the Mashangwa area, along the Ngeendalel-Mashangwa Road.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Residents in the area reported hearing gunshots that night, prompting officers to rush to the scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Upon arrival, police found Korir lying lifeless, having sustained two gunshot wounds to the head at close range.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Preliminary investigation revealed that a gang of about eight armed men ambushed and attacked the victim,&#8221; police said.<\/p>\n<p>After the attack, the assailants reportedly fled the scene on foot, escaping through a nearby sugarcane plantation in the direction of Migori County, complicating immediate pursuit efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Detectives secured and meticulously documented the crime scene as part of standard procedure. <\/p>\n<p>Korir\u2019s body was later transferred to Kilgoris Hospital Mortuary, where it was preserved pending a post-mortem examination to aid further investigations.<\/p>\n<p>In the weeks and months that followed, detectives intensified efforts to track down those responsible, relying on forensic evidence, intelligence gathering and coordinated operations across the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These efforts eventually led investigators to the suspect, who was cornered and arrested in Lolgorian.<\/p>\n<p>Following his arrest, the suspect was processed and arraigned before the Kilgoris Law Courts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The court granted him a cash bail of Sh100,000.
