The United States Embassy in Nairobi has issued a warning of a planned protest near its premises, urging citizens to remain cautious.<\/p>\n
In a notice on Wednesday,\u00a0 the embassy outlined the nature of the planned activity, noting that it was aware of online calls for a protest near its location.<\/p>\n
According to the alert, the demonstration is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and has been called by the Communist Party Marxist Kenya. <\/p>\n
The embassy said the group is expected to be small, with participation not exceeding 50 people, and the march is anticipated to remain peaceful.<\/p>\n
The embassy cautioned that traffic in the Gigiri area may be affected during the protest and urged the public to exercise heightened awareness of their surroundings.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe U.S. Embassy will continue with normal operations,\u201d the statement said, adding that security personnel will monitor the situation as it unfolds.<\/p>\n
Members of the public and motorists have been advised to plan accordingly and avoid the area if possible during the protest period.<\/p>\n
As part of its advisory, the embassy issued a list of safety measures for US citizens who may be in or around the area during the planned protest.<\/p>\n
“Monitor local media for updates; avoid crowds; avoid demonstrations; keep a low profile; notify friends and family of your safety; and be aware of your surroundings,” the notice read.<\/p>\n
The demonstration comes amid global criticism of the U.S. military\u2019s recent raid in Caracas that led to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and his wife, an action that sparked protests not only in Nairobi but in capitals across the world.<\/p>\n
