The Democratic Alliance (DA) said it will be submitting parliamentary questions to determine whether state funds were used to pay for President Cyril Ramaphosa\u2019s visit to Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s private farm.<\/p>\n
The DA also said Ramaphosa continues to rub shoulders with alleged money launderers operating in South Africa.<\/p>\n
These questions follow reports that Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivhayo, who is currently under investigation in South Africa, was part of the delegation during the visit to Mnangagwa’s farm on Sunday.<\/p>\n
DA International Relations spokesperson Ryan Smith said that, as a member of the Government of National Unity (GNU), the party will not tolerate the ANC\u2019s excuses for being in the company of those responsible for Zimbabwe\u2019s demise.<\/p>\n
He noted that Chivhayo is under investigation by South Africa\u2019s Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) over allegations of money laundering involving more than R800 million in public funds.<\/p>\n
Smith confirmed the DA will be questioning the President regarding the specific details of the trip.<\/p>\n
“South African taxpayers deserve to know whether they are footing the bill for the President to fraternise with those responsible for Zimbabwe\u2019s captured state,” Smith said.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, Presidency Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya addressed the Zimbabwe trip, characterizing it as a “working visit”.<\/p>\n
