{"id":227948,"date":"2026-05-10T15:08:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T15:08:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/227948\/"},"modified":"2026-05-10T15:08:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T15:08:16","slug":"nigerians-split-between-hope-and-doubt-ahead-of-2027-elections-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/227948\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerians Split Between Hope and Doubt Ahead of 2027 Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/63fc5b03346a2.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            Some Nigerians say they are ready to vote in the 2027 General Election, while others doubt that the process will bring real change.\n        <\/p>\n<p>This is according to a street poll conducted by Nigeria Info in the wake of the defections, screenings, and declarations by various aspirants ahead of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>Several respondents said hardship under the Bola Tinubu administration is pushing them to participate in the election.<\/p>\n<p>One voter said people were \u201ccrying and wailing\u201d because of the country\u2019s condition and added that she wanted \u201ca new Nigeria\u201d with better healthcare, infrastructure, and leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Support for former Labour Party presidential candidate and current Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) aspirant, Peter Obi, featured strongly in the poll.<\/p>\n<p>Some respondents said they would only vote if Obi joins forces with other opposition figures and contests on a political platform stronger than the NDC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will participate on one condition,&#8221; one person said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If they give Obi the ticket, Obi and Kwankwaso, if they can give them the ticket at ADC, yes, ADC, ADC,&#8221; he clarified.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think NDC can overpower APC.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Others, however, expressed deep distrust in Nigeria\u2019s electoral system.<\/p>\n<p>One respondent claimed election results in the country are already decided before voting begins, while another said, \u201cThere is no election in Nigeria.
