{"id":228296,"date":"2026-05-10T20:41:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T20:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/228296\/"},"modified":"2026-05-10T20:41:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T20:41:10","slug":"police-probe-death-of-futa-student-found-in-bush-in-akure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/228296\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Probe Death of FUTA Student Found in Bush in Akure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday said it had commenced an investigation into the death of a 100-level student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Favour Olaniyi.\n<\/p>\n<p>Olaniyi, a student of the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics of the Federal Government-owned institution, was reportedly found dead inside a bush near his off-campus residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Saturday.\n<\/p>\n<p>The circumstances surrounding the student\u2019s death were still unclear as of the time of filing this report, although the police said a bottle suspected to contain a poisonous substance was recovered at the scene, raising suspicion of suicide.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said detectives had already begun investigating the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ondo State Police Command has commenced investigation into a suspected suicide case involving one Olaniyi Favour \u2018M\u2019, a 23-year-old 100-level student of Federal University of Technology Akure,\u201d the statement read.\n<\/p>\n<p>Jimoh added that \u201cthe deceased was reportedly found lifeless inside a bush along FUTA North Gate, Akure, on Saturday, 9th May, 2026.
