I am very happy to be here. (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/0fc7deda-cb4f-4cb3-97c2-435e45b3e108.jpg\" alt=\"Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo entertained by a group of traditional Ugandan dancers. \" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo entertained by a group of traditional Ugandan dancers. <\/p>\n<p>The Mozambican leader also praised the facilities and hospitality at Speke Resort Munyonyo, describing the venue as \u201cvery amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reflections on deep historical connection<\/p>\n<p>During the discussions, President Museveni reflected on the deep historical connection between Uganda and Mozambique, particularly Mozambique\u2019s contribution to Uganda\u2019s liberation struggle through military training support offered to FRONASA fighters in Montepuez between 1976 and 1978.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/d6c01aa5-c8e1-41a2-a287-c1d728c229ee.jpg\" alt=\"President Chapo signs in the book at State House Entebbe.\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p>President Chapo signs in the book at State House Entebbe.<\/p>\n<p>President Museveni said he was happy to see some of the surviving members of the historic Montepuez group, whom he gladly showed to his country, noting that only three survivors remain from the original 28 trainees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly four survivors remain from the original 28 FRONASA trainees who underwent covert military training in Montepuez, Mozambique, between 1976 and 1978,\u201d President Museveni said.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the \u201cMontepuez Group\u201d played a significant role in laying the foundation for the struggle against the Idi Amin regime and later contributed to the formation of the modern Uganda People\u2019s Defence Forces (UPDF).<\/p>\n<p>According to President Museveni, the group became instrumental in building a liberation force that later grew to over 9,000 fighters.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the surviving veterans include Gen. Salim Saleh (Caleb Akandwanaho), the Senior Presidential Advisor; Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta, a senior military leader and former Member of Parliament; and Col. Bosco Omure, coordinator for special duties and development programmes in Northern Uganda.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5bc83dc1-6630-4204-83b0-febeef91d662.jpg\" alt=\"President Yoweri Museveni with his Mozambique counterpart Daniel Francisco Chapo.
