Kenya, 14 January 2026 – Kenya is experiencing a surge in cruise tourism, thanks in part to the country\u2019s new multiple-entry Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system designed for cruise passengers. The simplified process has made it easier for international visitors to enter the country, encouraging repeat arrivals and strengthening Kenya\u2019s appeal as a maritime destination.<\/p>\n
This week, the Port of Mombasa welcomed over 2,000 international tourists aboard two luxury vessels, MV Azamara Journey and EUROPA Valletta, arriving on Monday and Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The arrivals highlight a growing trend in cruise tourism, which the government reports expanded by 140 percent by the end of 2024, bringing economic opportunities to coastal communities.<\/p>\n
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano emphasised that the new ETA system has played a key role in driving this growth.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy simplifying entry for cruise passengers, we are making Kenya more accessible and attractive to visitors from around the world,\u201d she said, noting the benefits for both tourism and local economies.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, the luxury cruise liner MS Europa docked at the Port of Mombasa, marking the third cruise call of the year.<\/p>\n
