{"id":239558,"date":"2026-05-17T17:46:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T17:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/239558\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T17:46:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T17:46:08","slug":"dangote-raises-ethiopia-fertiliser-investment-to-4-billion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/239558\/","title":{"rendered":"Dangote raises Ethiopia fertiliser investment to $4 billion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, received a hero\u2019s welcome in Gode, Ethiopia, on a visit tied to his group\u2019s fertiliser plant project in the country.\n<\/p>\n<p>He was hosted by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and both men visited the construction site of the proposed facility on Sunday.\n<\/p>\n<p>Ethiopia signed a shareholders\u2019 agreement with Dangote Group in August last year for the establishment of a urea plant with an annual production capacity of three million metric tonnes.\n<\/p>\n<p>Construction was officially launched in October 2025. The joint venture is structured with Dangote holding 60 per cent and Ethiopian Investment Holdings, 40 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Dangote announced an increase in the project\u2019s total investment from $2.5 billion to over $4 billion.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Dangote Group statement read, \u201cDangote announced an increase in investment from $2.5 billion to over $4 billion, reflecting expanded scope, including a 110km pipeline, a 120MW power plant, a polypropylene packaging facility, and a two-million-tonne NPK blending plant.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Abiy, who accompanied Dangote on the site visit, described the project as central to Ethiopia\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\"   decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2145158\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/HIgVKOWXcAAy81i.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"719\"\/>Aliko Dangote and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during the visit. It is a strategic investment in Ethiopia\u2019s agricultural transformation, food security, industrial growth, and economic self-reliance.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>He said the plant would deliver broad national benefits upon completion.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce completed, the fertiliser plant will play a vital role in strengthening local production capacity, reducing dependence on imports, supporting millions of farmers, and creating new opportunities for jobs and investment,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>Abiy said he was encouraged by what he observed on the ground.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis morning, together with Aliko Dangote, I visited the project site in Gode to assess the progress achieved so far.
