{"id":24107,"date":"2026-01-15T02:48:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T02:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/24107\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T02:48:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T02:48:15","slug":"former-acting-police-commissioner-tells-parliament-mbalula-had-no-legal-power-to-suspend-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/24107\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Acting Police Commissioner tells parliament Mbalula had no legal power to suspend him"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Acting Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane said that his suspension by the then police Minister Fikile Mbalula was not legal.<\/p>\n<p>Phahlane said that his suspension was not based on any law, and he should have never been asked to \u201cstep aside\u201d by Mbalula in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Phahlane was suspended in connection with a \u201cblue lights\u201d tender and allegations of procurement fraud.<\/p>\n<p>The former Acting Commissioner was giving evidence before parliament\u2019s ad hoc committee investigation into police corruption today as it resumes its hearings for the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;I was not removed by the President of the Republic of South Africa as the Constitution and the Police Act dictate. I was made to step aside by the minister of police, then no law provides for such.
