15 January 2026 – Two National Police Reservists (NPR) were killed and two others injured following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack on Wednesday evening along the Kenya\u2013Somalia border in Mandera East.<\/p>\n
According to a police incident report, the attack occurred on at Kulun Border Point Four, approximately 100 metres inside Kenyan territory along the Bulla Hawa (Somalia)\u2013Mandera (Kenya) border.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The NPR officers were on duty when they stepped on an IED planted on the ground.<\/p>\n
Security sources indicate the attack is suspected to have been carried out by elements stationed at a nearby position, with preliminary assessments suggesting the incident may have been retaliatory in nature.<\/p>\n
Two of the NPR oficers who were manning the border, identified as Cpl Mohammed Abdow Issack and PC Abdirashid Shabellow Ali, succumbed to injuries sustained in the blast.<\/p>\n
PC Athan Noor Abdullah Abdi sustained critical injuries and is currently admitted at Mandera Referral Hospital, while PC (R) Abdullahi Jillow Adan is reported to be in stable condition.<\/p>\n
