{"id":242547,"date":"2026-05-19T16:34:34","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T16:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/242547\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T16:34:34","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T16:34:34","slug":"afcon-2027-draw-bafana-bafana-in-group-d-with-bennis-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/242547\/","title":{"rendered":"AFCON 2027 Draw: Bafana Bafana in Group D with Benni&#8217;s Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bafana Bafana are in Group D in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers which will get underway way in September.<\/p>\n<p>The draw was conducted on Tuesday afternoon in Cairo where all African countries learned their fate.<\/p>\n<p>According to CAF, the first two matches will be played between 21 September and 6 October 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The third and fourth matches of AFCON qualifiers are scheduled for 9 and 17 November while the final two matches will be played between 22 and 30 March 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament itself, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, will be played between 19 June and 17 July 2027.<\/p>\n<p>AFCON 2027 DRAW: BAFANA BAFANA IN GROUP D WITH KENYA<\/p>\n<p>Now, Bafana Bafana will battle it out against co-hosts Kenya, Guinea and Eritrea after they were all drawn in Group D.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Kenya have already qualified as co-hosts and their results in their qualifiers will not be taken into consideration.<\/p>\n<p>As per the norm, the top two teams will automatically advance to the knockout stages but in Group D, three, Kenya included, will progress.<\/p>\n<p>This draw means <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transfermarkt.co.za\/benni-mccarthy\/profil\/trainer\/46293\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Benni McCarthy<\/a> will get the chance to face Bafana Bafana for the first time as head coach.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy remains one of Bafana Bafana\u2019s icons with his long-standing goalscoring record of 31 goals during his playing days.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana\u2019s focus is firmly on doing well in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sapeople.com\/sport\/fifa-world-cup-when-will-bafana-bafana-squad-be-announced\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hugo Broos set to announce his squad on 27 May<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>AN EASY DRAW FOR SOUTH AFRICA?<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1254\" height=\"1254\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1000005641.jpg\" alt=\"AFCON 2027 Bafana Bafana \" class=\"wp-image-298183\"  \/>Bafana Bafana are in Group D of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
