TWO law enforcement officers are set to appear in court after they were allegedly caught red-handed taking a R3 000 bribe from a drunk driver in Parow during a sting.<\/p>\n
Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said that the Western Cape Anti-Corruption Unit arrested the two Law Enforcement Advancement Programme (LEAP) officers on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Gwala reported: \u201cThe duo stopped a drunk driver in Voortrekker Road, Parow on Monday 05 January 2026. Instead of arresting him for drunken driving, they opted for a R3 000 bribe.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe suspects took a video of the driver and saved their contacts on his cellular telephone and informed him that he could pay at a later stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe driver approached the corruption unit detectives, who instructed him to play along as they conducted an undercover trap operation.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to reports, the cops gave the driver marked notes to hand over the two suspects at their agreed meeting point. The suspects showed up and deleted the video in front of the driver and accepted the marked notes.<\/p>\n
Gwala added: \u201cBoth suspects were arrested on the spot, and their cellular telephones along with the marked money were seized as evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n
Law enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason said that this incident is incredibly disappointing.<\/p>\n
Dyason said: \u201cThe City will not tolerate such behaviour and we\u2019ll cooperate closely with SAPS in their investigation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe officers will be served with suspension notices when they are released from custody.\u201d<\/p>\n
