{"id":25627,"date":"2026-01-15T18:46:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T18:46:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/25627\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T18:46:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T18:46:10","slug":"india-ghana-trade-relations-discussed-in-new-delhi-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/25627\/","title":{"rendered":"India-Ghana trade relations discussed in New Delhi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/business\/India-Ghana-trade-relations-discussed-in-New-Delhi-2017448?gallery=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/70190920.295.jpg\" alt=\"India is one of Ghana's key economic partners\" title=\"India is one of Ghana's key economic partners\" width=\"295\" height=\"216\" \/> <\/a>India is one of Ghana&#8217;s key economic partners<\/p>\n<p id=\"article-123\">India and Ghana share a long-standing and multifaceted relationship spanning diplomatic, economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties. <\/p>\n<p>Since establishing formal diplomatic relations in 1957, shortly after Ghana\u2019s independence, both countries have cooperated across a wide range of sectors and have built mutual trust rooted in shared historical experiences and common developmental aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2025, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook a historic visit to Ghana \u2014 the first by an Indian premier in 30 years \u2014 underscoring the importance India places on its partnership with Ghana. <\/p>\n<p>During this visit, he held substantive talks with Ghanaian President <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/people\/person.php?ID=1349\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Dramani Mahama<\/a>, elevating bilateral relations to a comprehensive partnership and outlining ambitious goals for future cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the key outcomes of this engagement included:<\/p>\n<p>Agreement to double bilateral trade in the next five years, reflecting both countries\u2019 commitment to deepen commercial links.<\/p>\n<p>Signing of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering cultural exchanges, health and traditional medicine cooperation, standards and quality collaboration, and a Joint Commission for regular high-level dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions on strengthening cooperation in defence, digital payments (including possible linking of India\u2019s Unified Payments Interface with Ghana\u2019s systems), and healthcare, including support for Ghana\u2019s ambition to become a regional vaccine production hub.<\/p>\n<p>PM Modi was honored with Ghana\u2019s highest civilian award, Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, recognising his leadership and contribution to bilateral relations.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond this state visit, ongoing Joint Trade Committee meetings and business conclaves have helped both sides review progress and explore cooperation in traditional sectors like textiles, renewable energy, agriculture, digital economy, and fintech.<\/p>\n<p>India is one of Ghana\u2019s key economic partners.
