{"id":263137,"date":"2026-06-01T21:05:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T21:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/263137\/"},"modified":"2026-06-01T21:05:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T21:05:19","slug":"cata-boss-siviwe-kiva-in-hof-for-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/263137\/","title":{"rendered":"CATA boss Siviwe Kiva in hof for murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CAPE Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata) president, Siviwe Kiva, is facing a charge of premeditated murder, while more charges may be added against him.<\/p>\n<p>The taxi boss made his first appearance in the Paarl Magistrate&#8217;s Court on Monday, where he heard that the State would be opposing his release on bail.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe matter was postponed to Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bNational Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed Kiva\u2019s appearance innie hof and that he would face serious charges.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bNtabazalila said: \u201cCata president Siviwe Kiva appeared at Paarl Magistrate\u2019s Court on Monday charged with premeditated murder.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u201cMore charges are likely to be added. His case has been postponed until Thursday, 4 June, for a formal bail application. The State will oppose bail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u200bCata spokesperson, Nkululeko Sityebi, earlier confirmed the arrest when approached by the Cape Argus, but did not elaborate further.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) Western Cape said it could not comment yet on Kiva\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bLast week, Santaco issued a statement relating to members being arrested and charged.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bIt read: \u201cSantaco Western Cape notes with serious concern the matters currently before the courts involving certain individuals linked to the taxi industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u201cAs an organisation, we wish to place on record that Santaco Western Cape does not condone violence, extortion, intimidation, or any form of criminal conduct.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u201cThe matters before the court relate to individuals, and due legal processes must be allowed to unfold without interference or prejudice.
