Fresh details have emerged regarding the violent invasion of
\nAll Saints Cathedral in Nairobi by suspected hired goons.<\/p>\n
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage has exposed the
\nsequence of events that unfolded during the shocking attack on Friday morning.<\/p>\n
The footage captures how groups of men riding motorcycles
\nforcefully entered the cathedral grounds at around 9 am, disrupting a
\npost-budget review meeting attended by civil society leaders, religious
\nfigures, lawyers and members of the public.<\/p>\n
The meeting had been convened a day after the National
\nTreasury presented the 2026\/27 national budget and was intended to provide a
\nplatform for discussion on the budget’s implications for ordinary Kenyans.<\/p>\n
According to accounts pieced together from the CCTV
\nrecordings, the first group of attackers arrived on motorcycles and attempted to
\nstorm the church compound.<\/p>\n
Police officers responded and initially managed to repel
\nthem. However, the gang allegedly turned its attention to pedestrians along
\nValley Road and Kenyatta Avenue, where several people were reportedly robbed as
\npanic spread in the area.<\/p>\n
About 30 minutes later, the attackers returned, this time
\napproaching the cathedral on foot.<\/p>\n
The footage shows the group entering the church compound and
\nmaking their way into the conference venue where the budget discussion was
\nunderway.<\/p>\n
Inside the building, scenes of confusion and fear unfolded
\nas participants scrambled to safety.<\/p>\n
CCTV cameras on the second floor captured at least five
\nsuspected goons confronting and robbing individuals attempting to flee to the
\nthird floor. One police officer is seen trying to intervene but appears
\noverwhelmed by the unfolding chaos.<\/p>\n
Outside the cathedral, gunshots can be heard as security
\nofficers attempted to disperse the attackers and restore order.<\/p>\n
One suspect was reportedly arrested during the incident and
\ntaken to Kibre Police Station for questioning. However, police had not provided
\na comprehensive update on the investigation or disclosed whether additional
\narrests had been made.<\/p>\n
The brazen attack has sparked widespread condemnation from
\nreligious leaders, legal practitioners and human rights organisations, who have
\nquestioned how such an incident could occur in broad daylight at one of
\nNairobi’s most prominent places of worship.<\/p>\n
The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) said it was
\nappalled by the disruption of what it described as a peaceful multi-stakeholder
\nforum that had brought together citizens, faith leaders, civil society
\norganisations and private sector representatives to discuss issues affecting
\nthe country.<\/p>\n
“The violent disruption of a peaceful public forum is
\nunacceptable and undermines democratic engagement and dialogue,” the
\ncouncil said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Defenders Coalition
\nalso condemned the incident, calling for swift investigations and prosecution
\nof those responsible.<\/p>\n
“The growing use of organised gangs to intimidate
\ncitizens and disrupt lawful public gatherings poses a serious threat to the
