(KCTV) &#8211; Fans flooded Kansas City from across the globe to see Argentina and Algeria \u2014 and to prove the metro can host the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Kansas City\u2019s first-ever World Cup match is officially in the history books, and for thousands of fans it was historic for more than what happened on the pitch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Lionel Messi may have been the marquee name but Kansas City set the stage for a global moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">From early Tuesday, the city looked and sounded different. Streets and gathering spots filled with chants, singing and a festival-like energy as two teams from two continents arrived for KC\u2019s first World Cup game: Argentina vs. Algeria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt feels like it\u2019s a party of futbol from all nations,\u201d one fan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Downtown and watch party locations across the metro became a sea of colors &#8211; blue and white for Argentina, green and white for Algeria &#8211; with visitors traveling from places like France, Colombia, Jamaica and Cameroon, alongside locals who wanted to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThis is Kansas City, baby. This is what we do!\u201d another fan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Whether fans had tickets inside the stadium or watched from Power &amp; Light, Fan Fest, Shawnee Mission Park, or other gatherings around the metro, many described the experience as surreal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s just so fun that Kansas City is hosting a World Cup. It\u2019s so unreal, but it\u2019s real. It\u2019s really happening,\u201d a fan at a watch party said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For some, it was a dream come true.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cTo be in a local city where the FIFA game is, it\u2019s a dream come true\u2026 we\u2019re living our dream right now,\u201d one fan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For others, it hit even closer to home, especially those who\u2019ve built new lives here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI am from Argentina. I live in KC for four years and no one knew where KC was, and now seeing Argentina in Kansas City, it\u2019s crazy and amazing,\u201d another fan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As the day unfolded, the mood stayed joyful, with a mix of families, longtime soccer fans and first-timers taking in the atmosphere. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cVery beautiful, beautiful, beautiful city,\u201d one visitor said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">And long after the final whistle, the celebration continued, with crowds dancing and partying into the night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt was really cool. I loved it. It was amazing, phenomenal,\u201d a fan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Argentina brought the defending champions, Algeria brought the challenge, and Kansas City showed it can host the world.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCTV.
