AT LEAST I’M HOPING. YES, IT MIGHT MAKE IT A DEGREE OR TWO COOLER. SO THEY KIND OF GRASPING AT STRAWS THERE. BUT THIS IS KIND OF AN INTERESTING SITUATION. IT’S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HEAT. BUT THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS WE’VE DONE STORIES ON WILDFIRE SMOKE, MAKING IT INTO MARYLAND AND PUTTING A HAZE IN THE SKY. WELL, THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS THERE WILL BE A LITTLE BIT OF A HAZE IN THE SKY, BUT IT’S GOING TO COME FROM DUST ALL THE WAY OFF THE AFRICAN COAST, ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE ATLANTIC INTO THE MID-ATLANTIC. SO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS. SO AFRICA WOULD BE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF YOUR SCREEN THERE. SO THIS DUST IS TRAVELED THOUSANDS OF MILES ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE ATLANTIC. AND IT’S KIND OF WRAPPING AROUND THE HEAT DOME THAT WE HAVE HERE IN THE MID-ATLANTIC. AND THEN CIRCLING BACK TOWARDS BALTIMORE. THAT’S KIND OF WILD RIGHT THERE. SO AGAIN, IT’S WAY UP IN THE ATMOSPHERE. IT WON’T CAUSE ANY RESPIRATORY ISSUES LIKE THE SMOKE WILL. YOU’LL HARDLY NOTICE IT, BUT YOU’LL SEE A LITTLE HAZE IN THE AIR. AND YEAH, IT MIGHT BE THICK ENOUGH TO KEEP THE TEMPERATURE DOWN A DEGREE, MAYBE TWO, BUT I THINK YOU’LL NOTICE IT MOST AT SUNSET. IT WILL PUT A NICE ORANGE COLOR ON THE SUNSET ON THE WESTERN HORIZON. SO THIS IS WEDNESDAY. HERE YOU CAN SEE THE SMOKE AND THE SMOKE, THE DUST ALL OVER THE MID-ATLANTIC. I’LL SET THE TIME FRAME INTO THURSDAY, AND YOU CAN SEE THE CORE OF THAT DUST TRAVELING OVER TOWARDS BALTIMORE STILL. SO EVEN ON THURSDAY, IT’S GOING TO BE STICKING AROUND. NOW WHEN THIS DUST IS OVER THE ATLANTIC, IT TENDS TO SUPPRESS HURRICANE ACTIVITY BECAUSE IT PUTS A LAYER OF DRY AIR IN THE ATMOSPHERE. SO WHEN HURRICANES AND BIG THUNDERSTORMS START TO DEVELOP IN THE ATLANTIC, IT TAMPS IT DOWN. I DON’T THINK THAT’S GOING TO BE THE CASE HERE FOR US. IT’S NOT GOING TO SUPPRESS THE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. IT’S JUST NOT THICK ENOUGH. AND AS A MATTER OF FACT, YOU CAN ALREADY SEE SOME THUNDERSTORMS COMING AROUND THE TOP OF THE HEAT DOME. WE’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. THERE’S A CLU

Maryland to see dust from Africa over coming days | Weather Talk

   Updated: 4:41 PM EDT Jun 30, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

Over the last few summers, Maryland had wildfire smoke drift into the state.
