Detectives shot and killed a key suspect linked to the
\nbrazen armed robbery at a popular restaurant in Westlands, Nairobi, and
\nrecovered a Beretta pistol following a fierce shootout in Joska, Machakos
\nCounty.<\/p>\n
The suspect is also believed to have been part of a criminal
\nnetwork behind a series of violent robberies across Nairobi, Kiambu and
\nMachakos counties.<\/p>\n
Acting swiftly on crucial intel, detectives from DCI
\nHeadquarters joined forces with their DCI Matungulu counterparts to launch a
\nraid on a house in Joska Town, where the suspect had reportedly taken refuge in
\nhis girlfriend\u2019s house.<\/p>\n
Upon identifying themselves and ordering the occupants to
\nopen the door, the suspect opened fire through a kitchen window, spraying
\nbullets at the officers. Detectives returned fire in self-defence.<\/p>\n
After securing the premises and gaining entry, the
\ndetectives discovered the suspect lying fatally wounded inside the house.<\/p>\n
A Beretta pistol, loaded with a magazine containing four
\nrounds of 9mm ammunition, alongside live rounds and spent cartridges, were
\nrecovered at the scene.<\/p>\n
Also recovered were three mobile phones.<\/p>\n
Preliminary investigations strongly link the suspect to the
\nrecent daylight robbery along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley,
\nWestlands, where armed thugs terrorised diners, snatching phones and valuables
\nbefore fleeing on motorcycles.<\/p>\n
The recovered firearm is now in the custody of the National
\nPolice Service Forensic Laboratory (NPSFL), where ballistic experts will
\nexamine it for possible links to other violent crimes.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway to trail down the suspect’s
\naccomplices, who remain at large.<\/p>\n
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reaffirmed its
\ncommitment to dismantling violent criminal networks and ensuring that all those
\ninvolved in serious crimes face the full force of the law.<\/p>\n
The gang, riding on two motorcycles, struck Chaiiwali Hotel
\nat around 10.40 p.m. after two of the suspects entered the restaurant
\npretending to be customers.<\/p>\n
Once inside, they drew pistols and robbed patrons of seven
\nmobile phones and one HP laptop in a robbery that lasted less than a minute.<\/p>\n
Before fleeing towards the Parklands area, the attackers
\nfired two rounds into the air. Police recovered a spent 9mm cartridge at the
\nscene as evidence.<\/p>\n
Investigators later tracked the stolen mobile phones to the
\nKariobangi area as efforts to identify and arrest the suspects continue.<\/p>\n
Police said a team of detectives was pursuing the gang with
\nan intention of getting those behind the same.<\/p>\n
The customers were left shaken during and after the attack
\ncaught on camera.<\/p>\n
Footage shared showed the gunmen with face masks with
\npistols and demanding valuables at gunpoint.<\/p>\n
They grabbed what they could before they stormed out and
\nshot to the air to scare those who could dare confront them.<\/p>\n
Some customers were seen taking cover as the gang shot to
\nthe air and escaped on motorcycles.<\/p>\n
Police said they were pursuing good leads into the attack
