{"id":346019,"date":"2026-07-24T13:29:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T13:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/346019\/"},"modified":"2026-07-24T13:29:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T13:29:12","slug":"nigeria-rwanda-reaffirm-commitment-to-strengthening-bilateral-relations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/346019\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria, Rwanda reaffirm commitment to strengthening bilateral relations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, has reaffirmed Nigeria\u2019s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Republic of Rwanda.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ministry\u2019s spokesman, Kimiebi Ebienfa, made this known in a statement on Friday, following a courtesy visit of the Rwandan High Commissioner to Nigeria, Moses Rugema, to the ministry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The minister said such relations would focus on\u00a0trade, investment, regional security cooperation and increased private sector participation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Enikanolaiye said\u00a0there was\u00a0a need to translate the excellent political relations between Nigeria and Rwanda into tangible economic outcomes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0According to him, this will require increased private sector engagement, expanded trade and greater investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He emphasised that governments should continue to provide an enabling environment for businesses to drive sustainable economic cooperation and development.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He emphasised the value of sharing experiences and best practices in governance, human security, infrastructure development, education and public service delivery, as\u00a0vital to\u00a0deepening\u00a0continental cooperation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSuch values will contribute significantly toward the realisation of the African Union Agenda 2063 and objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking earlier, Mr Rugema reaffirmed his country\u2019s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding cordial relations between the two countries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said Nigeria and Rwanda had continued to enjoy excellent diplomatic ties, anchored on mutual respect, African solidarity and shared aspirations for peace, regional integration, and sustainable development.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is\u00a0important\u00a0to\u00a0convene\u00a0the next session of the Nigeria-Rwanda Joint Permanent Commission (JPC).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSuch technical consultation is underway to conclude outstanding bilateral agreements,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Rugema also proposed setting up a Nigeria-Rwanda business forum to facilitate greater collaboration between the private sectors of both countries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He highlighted the opportunities presented by AfCFTA for\u00a0expanding trade and investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis will also\u00a0include\u00a0information and communication technology; healthcare; agriculture; peace\u00a0and security; defence cooperation,\u00a0and capacity building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese are priority sectors for enhanced cooperation, economic growth, and regional stability,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both countries expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of their\u00a0bilateral relations and determination to continue working closely to advance shared interests in peace, security, economic cooperation, and sustainable development.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On regional peace and security, both sides acknowledged the complex security challenges facing the African continent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They underscored the importance of enhanced collaboration among African countries in combating violent extremism and transnational organised crime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The duo also agreed that African-led solutions, strengthened defence cooperation, and sustained dialogue remained essential to achieving lasting peace and stability across the continent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0(NAN)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gazettengr.com\/donate\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"display: inline-block;
