Officers did, however, explain to Mr Xaba and the member of the public how permits work,” he said.

According to Smith, Xaba does not require a permit if he is busking.

However, if he wants his artwork to remain on display for longer periods, a permit is required.

“The Law Enforcement officers did not issue any fines on the day, nor did they arrest Mr Xaba,” Smith said.

Smith said police would be best placed to comment on the circumstances surrounding that arrest.

The Daily Voice’s sister publication, the False Bay Echo has approached Fish Hoek police for comment regarding the arrest and will update the story once a response is received.

The City has denied reports that well-known Fish Hoek sand sculptor Lanele Xaba, better known as John English,…

[52
4858,26430,86385,7196,86382,28275,79831,111529,170367,26431,161658,1710,170365,7568,170364,1874,100768,16397,131,1689,8345,170366,1709
post-354016","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-south-africa","tag-cape-argus","tag-cape-argus-news-whatsapp","tag-ccmonlineza","tag-city","tag-false-bay-echo","tag-fish-hoek","tag-fish-hoek-beach","tag-https-capeargus-co-za","tag-https-falsebayecho-co-za-news-2025-06-05-sand-sculptor-seeks-home-near-fish-hoek-beach","tag-https-whatsapp-com-channel-0029vazahmhhgzwunqmo030n","tag-https-www-tiktok-com-ccmonlineza","tag-instagram","tag-john-english","tag-jp-smith","tag-lanele-xaba","tag-law-enforcement","tag-mayco","tag-officers","tag-south-africa","tag-south-african-police-service","tag-the-city","tag-the-law-enforcement","tag-tiktok
["GET
