Police in Ritavi, under the Mopani District, Limpopo have arrested a 49-year-old man from Mokgolobotho Village for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter, including an incident on July 27.<\/p>\n

The matter came to light in May when a pastor at a local church was approached by a church member who reported concerns that her husband had allegedly been sharing a bed with their daughter, claiming he was assisting her with schoolwork.<\/p>\n

The pastor then spoke directly to the teenager, who allegedly disclosed that her father had been raping<\/a> her for some time but had never reported the abuse<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The matter was reported to police on July 30. The teenager was taken for a medical examination, while members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit from Tzaneen traced and arrested the suspect.<\/p>\n

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect was arrested following investigations by police.<\/p>\n

Ledwaba said the police investigation would continue as the suspect prepares to appear in court.<\/p>\n

“The victim<\/a> was taken for medical examination. Police traced and arrested the suspect. FCS Unit members from Tzaneen are investigating the case,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, welcomed the arrest and condemned crimes committed against children.<\/p>\n

“No child should ever have to endure abuse in the very home that is meant to protect her. This arrest sends a clear message that those who prey on children, even within their own families, will be found and will face the full might of the law.”<\/p>\n
