{"id":361657,"date":"2026-08-03T18:09:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T18:09:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/361657\/"},"modified":"2026-08-03T18:09:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T18:09:17","slug":"body-of-missing-itumeleng-kekana-found-near-pomona-informal-settlement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/361657\/","title":{"rendered":"Body of missing Itumeleng Kekana found near Pomona informal settlement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kempton Park SAPS have registered a case of murder after the body of a 32-year-old woman was discovered near Great North Road, close to Max Informal Settlement in Pomona, on August 3.<\/p>\n<p>According to police, officers responded to a murder complaint at about 10:00 and found paramedics at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cItumeleng Kekana was identified by her boyfriend, who arrived at the scene,\u201d said Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego.<\/p>\n<p>She confirmed that Itumeleng had been reported missing to the Kempton Park SAPS on July 17.<\/p>\n<p>Ditshego said the victim was found in the bushes next to the road with multiple stab wounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.co.za\/kempton-express\/news-headlines\/local-crime-news\/2026\/07\/16\/murder-accused-appears-in-kempton-park-regional-court\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Murder accused appears in Kempton Park Regional Court<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, and no suspects have been arrested at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The motive for the murder is currently unknown.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the family, Itumeleng\u2019s brother, Kokonyana Kekana, said her disappearance had left the family desperately searching for answers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy sister went missing on July 17. We looked for her everywhere until we found her today, and she\u2019s no more. As a family, we are deeply shattered,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe plead with SAPS to work hard and find the killers of my sister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her partner, Lekgotla Gumede, said he was the one who identified her body after noticing emergency services near Great North Road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was on my way to Kempton Park when I saw an ambulance parked on the side of the road. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.co.za\/kempton-express\/news-headlines\/local-crime-news\/2026\/05\/07\/teen-suspect-arrested-following-murder-of-grade-12-learner\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Teen suspect arrested following murder of Grade 12 learner<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI asked someone what had happened, and they said it looked like someone had been hit by a car. They also mentioned there was a woman\u2019s body at the scene,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told them I had a missing person. They asked me to describe what she had been wearing and then told me to go and check. Even though the body had decomposed, I could tell it was her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gumede has appealed to investigators to examine CCTV footage that could assist in identifying those responsible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge the officers to check the CCTV footage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ditshego added that paramedics declared Itumeleng dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Local Criminal Record Centre, the provincial investigation unit, the crime office and the missing persons investigation officer attended the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Itumeleng\u2019s body was taken to the Germiston mortuary.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the Kempton Park SAPS.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\tAt Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention.
