{"id":362693,"date":"2026-08-04T10:16:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T10:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/362693\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T10:16:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T10:16:12","slug":"algeria-part-ways-with-head-coach-petkovic-after-world-cup-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/362693\/","title":{"rendered":"Algeria part ways with head coach Petkovic after World Cup campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Algeria confirmed that a mutual agreement had been reached to part ways with head coach Vladimir Petkovic following their World Cup campaign this summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Petkovic had only signed a contract extension before the beginning of the World Cup, but he has since left his role\u00a0with the nation he had been in charge of since 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 62-year-old replaced\u00a0Djamel Belmadi two years ago and oversaw 33 matches across all competitions, winning 23 of those (D5 L5).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He guided Algeria to the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations in 2025 before helping them qualify for the World Cup for the first time since the 2014 edition in Brazil.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Algeria advanced as one of the best third-place teams having taken four points from their Group J games, which included an enthralling 3-3 draw with Austria.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They reached the knockout stages of the World Cup for just the second time, but were beaten 2-0 by Switzerland at\u00a0BC Place in the last 32.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The \u200bAlgerian Football Federation announce that their contractual \u200brelationship with the national team head coach, Mr. Vladimir Petkovic, and his coaching staff \u200bhas officially come to an end \u200btoday, on a mutual agreement between the two \u200cparties,&#8221;
