{"id":3633,"date":"2026-01-04T21:17:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T21:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/3633\/"},"modified":"2026-01-04T21:17:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-04T21:17:11","slug":"china-warns-against-arms-sales-to-taiwan-province-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/3633\/","title":{"rendered":"China warns against arms sales to Taiwan province &#8211; News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Namibia\u2019s Chinese embassy has warned that any attempt to provoke China with large-scale arms sales to the Taiwan region will be met with a firm response and consequences.<\/p>\n<p>This follows an announcement by the United States (US) of US$11 billion in arms sales to Taiwan, the largest weapons package approved for the self-governed island.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the second arms sale to Taiwan under US president Donald Trump\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n<p>It comes at a time when Beijing has intensified both military and diplomatic efforts against Taiwan, whose government continues to reject China\u2019s claims of sovereignty over the island.<\/p>\n<p>The embassy reiterated that the Taiwan question lies at the heart of China\u2019s core national interests and remains the most sensitive issue in China-US relations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina has decided to take countermeasures in accordance with the law on countering foreign sanctions against 20 US military-related companies and 10 senior executives who have engaged in arming Taiwan in recent years,\u201d the embassy said on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo country or force shall ever underestimate the resolve, will and ability of the Chinese government and people to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The embassy urged the US to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqu\u00e9s, act on the commitment of the US leader, stop the dangerous moves of arming Taiwan, stop undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and to stop sending wrong signals to Taiwan independence separatist forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina will continue to take resolute measures to firmly defend national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity,\u201d the embassy noted.<\/p>\n<p>In an age of information overload, Sunrise is The Namibian\u2019s morning briefing, delivered at 6h00 from Monday to Friday.
