Family, relatives and friends gathered at CITAM Church in
\nNairobi to pay their final respects to psychiatrist and mental health
\nresearcher Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, who was shot dead in Nairobi last week.<\/p>\n
An atmosphere of grief and reflection filled the church as
\nmourners remembered Mutiso as a warm, cheerful and devoted family woman whose
\nlife was defined by her commitment to those around her.<\/p>\n
Her two children, Dr Christine Musyimi and David Ndetei Junior,
\nmourned their mother as a loving parent and close confidant who remained a
\nsource of guidance and strength to the family.<\/p>\n
Her husband, renowned psychiatrist Prof David Ndetei, spoke
\nof the profound pain caused by her death, saying the family had been hurt
\nbeyond human comprehension.<\/p>\n
Despite the anguish, Prof Ndetei said he had forgiven those
\nresponsible for the killing, choosing forgiveness in the face of the tragedy
\nthat had befallen his family.<\/p>\n
Mutiso was shot dead on the morning of Wednesday, July 29,
\nwhile commuting by taxi along Raila Odinga Way in Nairobi.<\/p>\n
Her killing has since triggered a major investigation by
\nhomicide detectives, who are pursuing several leads, including a possible
\nconnection to a long-running matrimonial property dispute involving her family.<\/p>\n
Police suspect the killing could be linked to the
\ndecades-long dispute involving property worth billions of shillings.<\/p>\n
Investigators are examining the relationships and events
\nsurrounding the dispute as they seek to establish the motive for the shooting.<\/p>\n
A Nairobi court has since ordered the detention of a mother
\nand her son for 21 days as detectives continue investigating the murder.<\/p>\n
They were ordered to remain in custody as the Directorate of
\nCriminal Investigations (DCI) pursues further evidence before deciding on the
\nnext course of action.<\/p>\n
The suspects have not yet taken a plea, with investigators
\ntelling the court they required additional time to complete their inquiries.<\/p>\n
The investigation has also widened to examine possible links
\nbetween Mutiso’s killing and the September 2025 assassination of lawyer Mathew
\nKyalo Mbobu.<\/p>\n
Mbobu had previously represented a party involved in the
\nprotracted property dispute that detectives are examining as a possible motive
\nfor Mutiso’s killing.<\/p>\n
Investigators are now working to establish whether the two
\nkillings are connected and, if so, the circumstances surrounding any possible
\nlink.<\/p>\n
The 21-day detention period is expected to give detectives
\ntime to conduct forensic examinations, record statements, analyse evidence and
\npursue other leads in an effort to establish what happened before, during and
\nafter Dr Mutiso was shot.<\/p>\n
She will be laid to rest on Friday at her family home in
\nMbooni, Makueni county, where relatives, friends and colleagues are expected to
