{"id":368366,"date":"2026-08-08T01:10:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T01:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/368366\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T01:10:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T01:10:28","slug":"spains-politicians-point-finger-at-morocco-over-ceuta-crisis-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/368366\/","title":{"rendered":"Spain\u2019s politicians point finger at Morocco over Ceuta crisis \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past five days, a plethora of EU leaders and far-right parties have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/giorgia-meloni-pedro-sanchez-clash-over-eu-migration-crackdown\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">slammed<\/a> Spain for losing control of one of the bloc\u2019s external borders and effectively bringing the Ceuta crisis upon itself by moving to grant legal status to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/spain-greenlights-mass-regularization-of-more-than-500000-undocumented-migrants\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1.2 million unauthorized migrants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Ant\u00f3nio Costa and Irish Prime Minister Miche\u00e1l Martin, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/ceuta-crisis-22-eu-leaders-letter-spain-pedro-sanchez-migration-policy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">22 of the bloc\u2019s leaders<\/a> on Saturday called for EU-level oversight on national policies \u201cthat can serve as pull factors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of Monday\u2019s meeting of EU ambassadors, Spanish Foreign Minister Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares pushed back against Madrid\u2019s critics in other European capitals and said his country would \u201cdemand solidarity from all the States of the European Union.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpain currently has the lowest number of irregular entries on the Mediterranean route,\u201d Albares said during an interview on Spanish state broadcaster TVE.
