{"id":383407,"date":"2026-08-18T06:33:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T06:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/383407\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T06:33:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T06:33:17","slug":"mozambique-targets-ai-creative-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/383407\/","title":{"rendered":"Mozambique targets AI creative growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"904\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/wCYF2NprH2haYivhJKuZX5B3LzgVKuRpB0PKejF1zxqxtZElsfWb3yxW0SfuRkwXrR_j3x3hV1CMPGdcZGD8cBTrm-QwWczr0us.jpeg\" alt=\"Lourino Chemane, chairman of the board of directors at the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies.\" fetchpriority=\"high\" loading=\"eager\" style=\"max-width:100%;object-fit:fill;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Lourino Chemane, chairman of the board of directors at the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies. <\/p>\n<p>Artificial intelligence (AI) opens a new path for Mozambique&#8217;s cultural and creative economy, said Lourino Chemane, chairman of the board of directors at the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (INTIC).<\/p>\n<p>The country is assessing the role of the technology, with officials noting that the integration presents a key opportunity to promote sustainable development by encouraging innovation, expanding access to culture, translating content, and preserving cultural heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Chemane said ethical, transparent, and responsible use of AI is essential to safeguard the rights of creators, cultural identity, and the economic value of creative production.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The sentiment follows a national dialogue titled &#8220;Culture: Identity, Rights and Economy,&#8221; held at the Mozambique-China Cultural Centre in Maputo.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the opportunities, Chemane warned that increased usage of AI poses challenges related to copyright, intellectual property, cultural data, and algorithmic transparency.<\/p>\n<p>The dialogue aimed to promote an open reflection on the role of culture in the country&#8217;s development, with a focus on preserving cultural identity, guaranteeing cultural rights, and valuing culture as an economic sector.<\/p>\n<p>INTIC said the approach aligns with the framework of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which establishes guidelines for the ethical development and adoption of AI in the Southern African country.<\/p>\n<p>With coordinated actions, appropriate technological solutions, and inclusion, it is possible to transform culture into a driving force for innovation, according to Chemane.<\/p>\n<p>He added that collaboration between government, creators, academia, the private sector, and communities will be decisive in building collective responses to challenges and exploiting opportunities offered by AI.<\/p>\n<p>Placing Mozambican identity at the centre of AI development will help build an inclusive <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/clk?id=6759218543&amp;iu=\/22684935574\/Africa\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text-primary\" data-v-da29e75f=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> digital  <\/a> future, while protecting creators&#8217; rights and laying solid foundations for future generations, INTIC said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Lourino Chemane, chairman of the board of directors at the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies.
