The newly appointed Chairman of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), Al-Bashir Al-Maraash, held his first board meeting on Monday evening after assuming his duties, focusing on the state of the country\u2019s electricity grid.<\/p>\n
The meeting discussed the urgent difficulties and challenges facing the company and ways to address them promptly in order to support grid stability and improve electricity services for citizens. It was attended by board members, GECOL General Manager Abdullah Hamouda, and several department directors, according to a statement published on the company\u2019s Facebook page.<\/p>\n
The meeting followed the restructuring of GECOL\u2019s board, with Al-Maraash replacing Mohammed Al-Mashay as chairman. He formally assumed his duties after the completion of the required legal and administrative procedures, according to the Government of National Unity.<\/p>\n
The company\u2019s General Assembly had earlier held a meeting to discuss several issues, including reports submitted by the board, the general manager and the supervisory body, as well as the restructuring of the company\u2019s board of directors.<\/p>\n
The new board takes office at a time when Libya\u2019s electricity system continues to face persistent challenges, including recurring power outages across several cities and regions, amid calls to improve grid efficiency, accelerate maintenance work and implement power generation, transmission and distribution projects.<\/p>\n
