Ahead of the 2026 Luanda International Film Festival<\/a> (FIC Luanda), the Angola\u2019s National Agency for Cultural and Creative Industries (ANICC) held a presentation and dialogue session\u00a0 in Luanda on Tuesday with audiovisual professionals. The session outlined the festival\u2019s eighth edition programme strands and gathered input from industry professionals.\u00a0<\/p>\n Held on 19th August, 2026, the meeting brought together 20 directors, filmmakers, and producers from Angola\u2019s film industry. ANICC presented the structure of FIC Luanda 2026, which will take place in the Angolan capital from 28th October to 2nd November, 2026.<\/p>\n Across a series of presentations and discussions, the organisers detailed the activities planned for the festival, including the competitive programme, parallel showcases and special screenings, roundtable discussions, creative workshops, and training and professional development initiatives, including LUALab<\/a>, a film project development lab.<\/p>\n ANICC also announced that 41 Angolan projects have already been submitted for the National Competition, which forms part of the FIC Luanda 2026 programme: 25 in the Short Fiction, nine in Feature Fiction, and seven in Documentary. The 2026 edition of FIC Luanda is set to screen more than 100 films from over 18 countries across three main venues and five parallel strands, with screenings open to the public. Alongside the National Competition, the festival will feature an International Selection of invited titles.<\/p>\n Asdr\u00fabal Rebelo, Director of ANICC, said: \u201cThe return of FIC Luanda forms part of a broader vision to promote and develop the cultural and creative industries. FIC Luanda is an inclusive initiative with the potential to bring filmmakers, industry professionals and audiences together for a new stage in the development of Angolan cinema. ANICC is doing everything it can to strengthen production, distribution, exhibition and training, so that our artists and cultural practitioners can take a significant step forward.\u201d<\/p>\n Similarly, Jorge Cohen, Managing Director of Gera\u00e7\u00e3o 80, the production company serving as the festival\u2019s implementing partner, said: \u201cFIC Luanda returns with the ambition of bringing audiences back to cinemas, championing Angolan film professionals and opening new opportunities for dialogue between Angolan and international cinema. We want to bring films and perspectives from other film cultures to Angola, while also showcasing our own work internationally. We want this to be a truly international festival.\u201d<\/p>\n FIC Luanda 2026 aligns with the objectives of Angola\u2019s National Development Plan 2023\u20132027, particularly in support of film production and the cultural and creative industries.<\/p>\n The festival\u2019s return comes as the Ministry of Culture restores cultural infrastructure and strengthens domestic film activity.
