{"id":390619,"date":"2026-08-22T16:33:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T16:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/390619\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T16:33:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T16:33:22","slug":"your-days-in-politics-are-numbered-kindiki-tells-gachagua","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/390619\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Your days in politics are numbered,\u2019 Kindiki tells Gachagua"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/92c5adb9-393e-4512-ac27-126edadc2c3c.webp\" style=\"max-width: 100%; width: 100%;\"\/>Deputy President Kithure Kindiki address residents in Meru on August 22, 2026\/DPCS<\/p>\n<p>\u200e<\/p>\n<p>\u200e<\/p>\n<p>Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has invoked the biblical phrase \u201cMene Mene Tekel Upharsin\u201d to warn former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that his political days are numbered.<\/p>\n<p>He said leaders without a record of achievement will be rejected by voters.<\/p>\n<p>Kindiki criticised Gachagua\u2019s style of politics, claiming he relies on insults and provocative labels instead of presenting a record of what he achieved while in government.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at Kinoru Stadium in Meru town on Saturday, Kindiki said leaders should be judged by their performance and contribution to the communities they represent rather than their political bravado.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlipatia Rais jina ati Kasongo, akapatia Deputy President jina ati Soprano,\u201d Kindiki said, referring to names Gachagua has used for President William Ruto and the current Deputy President.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf that is the style of politics you are playing, your days in politics are numbered,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<p>Kindiki appeared to draw on the biblical account of the writing on the wall in the Book of Daniel, where \u201cMene Mene Tekel Upharsin\u201d was interpreted as a warning that a ruler\u2019s reign had been weighed and found wanting.<\/p>\n<p>He said political leadership should not be based on chest-thumping, arrogance or insults.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWale hawana rekodi waende. What counts is what you have done to your people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKwani familia inaongozwa na kifua? Watu wanaongozwa na kiburi?\u201d Kindiki asked.<\/p>\n<p>The remarks came as Kindiki presented the Government\u2019s progress in implementing its manifesto, four years after the Kenya Kwanza administration came to power.<\/p>\n<p>He said Kenya\u2019s economic recovery was on course, citing improvements in the strength of the currency, inflation, the country\u2019s sovereign rating, foreign exchange reserves and national savings.<\/p>\n<p>In agriculture, Kindiki pointed to reduced fertiliser prices and increased earnings from coffee, tea and milk, as well as lower costs of sexed semen for dairy breeding.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Government had also employed an additional 100,000 teachers, streamlined the education curriculum and doubled enrolment in tertiary institutions.<\/p>\n<p>On healthcare, Kindiki said 32 million Kenyans were now covered under Taifa Care, compared with eight million previously covered under the former system.<\/p>\n<p>He also highlighted the Affordable Housing Programme, construction of fresh produce markets and student accommodation as part of efforts to transform Kenya\u2019s built environment.<\/p>\n<p>Kindiki said electricity connections had been extended to 1.4 million additional homes, while the NYOTA programme and overseas and digital jobs were creating opportunities for young people.<\/p>\n<p>On infrastructure, he said the Government had cleared Sh177 billion in road construction bills that had contributed to stalled projects since 2019, allowing construction of about 6,000 kilometres of roads to resume.<\/p>\n<p>He also cited ongoing construction of the Rironi-Mau Summit Road, a new airport in Nairobi, railway extensions and 32 new stadiums, including Talanta Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Kindiki spoke to more than 40,000 grassroots leaders and opinion shapers from Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kitui and Kirinyaga counties at Kinoru Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>He was accompanied by several governors, senators, MPs, MCAs and senior Government officials, including Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa.<\/p>\n<p>Kindiki said the National Infrastructure Fund would support construction of dams, roads and energy projects as Kenya seeks to accelerate industrialisation and achieve first-world economy status.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Deputy President Kithure Kindiki address residents in Meru on August 22, 2026\/DPCS \u200e \u200e Deputy President Kithure Kindiki&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":390620,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[31],"tags":[906,5811,80,351,9820,22911,261,352,98,100,36736,353,101,350,99],"class_list":["post-390619","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-kenya","tag-906","tag-gachagua","tag-kenya","tag-kenya-news","tag-kindiki","tag-meru","tag-politics","tag-star","tag-star-news","tag-star-news-kenya","tag-star-newspaper","tag-star-newspaper-kenya","tag-the-star","tag-the-star-kenya","tag-the-star-newspaper"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@africa\/117140129979300720","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/390619","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=390619"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/390619\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/390620"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=390619"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=390619"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=390619"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
