{"id":391025,"date":"2026-08-22T23:53:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T23:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/391025\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T23:53:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T23:53:11","slug":"data-forum-kicks-off-in-zanzibar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/391025\/","title":{"rendered":"Data forum kicks off in Zanzibar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR is hosting Data Tamasha Africa 2026, bringing together more than 300 delegates, over 100 organisations and participants from 30 countries.<\/p>\n<p>The three-day event kicked off yesterday, positioning the Isles as a growing hub for digital innovation, data-driven development and digital governance.<\/p>\n<p>Co-hosted by the Tanzania Data Lab (dLab) and Pollicy Uganda, in collaboration with the Zanzibar Ministry of Communication, Information Technology and Innovation, the forum showcases how African institutions and innovators are moving beyond dialogue to building practical solutions using data, digital technologies and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>Opening the event, Zanzibar\u2019s Minister for Communication, Information Technology and Innovation, Mr Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga, said the Isles are honoured to host the gathering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Zanzibar, hosting Data Tamasha Africa 2026 reinforces our role as a regional hub for digital innovation and data-driven development. This forum will enhance our international profile and attract investment in ICT, education, business and public services,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the government aims to promote the use of data and technology to boost productivity, accountability and sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>Under the theme \u201cKujenga na Data\u201d, which literally translates as \u2018Building with Data,\u2019 participants are sharing homegrown AI solutions, community-driven data systems and digital public innovations tailored to Africa\u2019s priorities.<\/p>\n<p>ALSO READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/dailynews.co.tz\/govt-pledges-stronger-devolution-for-vision-2050\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Govt pledges stronger devolution for Vision 2050<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tanzania Data Lab Executive Director, Dr Mahadia Tunga, said data-driven decision-making is critical, especially for countries with limited resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cData helps identify development priorities and ensure that resources are used effectively. Data Tamasha provides a platform to learn from success stories and openly discuss shared challenges,\u201d she said, urging Zanzibar residents to attend the event. Pollicy Executive Director, Ms Neema Iyer, said in-person engagement is key to unlocking ideas and collaboration across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need spaces where people meet, share experiences and build together. Ideas cannot grow in isolation,\u201d she said. She added that joy and connection are essential in sustaining innovation. \u201cWe must not see joy as a distraction. It is fuel for bold ideas.
