{"id":4085,"date":"2026-01-05T02:42:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T02:42:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/4085\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T02:42:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T02:42:16","slug":"kmpdc-condemns-claims-of-faith-based-healing-at-nakuru-crusade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/4085\/","title":{"rendered":"KMPDC condemns claims of &#8216;faith-based healing&#8217; at Nakuru crusade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.digital\/author\/ian-omondi-749\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ui-avatars.com\/api\/?name=I+O&amp;color=7F9CF5&amp;background=EBF4FF\" alt=\"Ian Omondi\"\/><\/a> By<br \/>\n      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.digital\/author\/ian-omondi-749\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n        Ian Omondi<br \/>\n      <\/a><br \/>\n      Published on:  January 03, 2026 08:09 (EAT)<br \/>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"KMPDC condemns claims of 'faith-based healing' at Nakuru crusade\" alt=\"KMPDC condemns claims of 'faith-based healing' at Nakuru crusade\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/KMPDC-og_image.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>  <\/p>\n<p>File image of the KMPDC complex in Nairobi.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" data-v-7257c9c5=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/tts-pre-loader.gif\" alt=\"Vocalize Pre-Player Loader\" style=\"all:unset!important;display:inline!important;\"\/> <\/p>\n<p data-v-7257c9c5=\"\" style=\"font-size:13px;margin-left:20px;\">Audio By Vocalize<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Kenya Medical<br \/>\nPractitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has raised alarm over claims of<br \/>\nfaith-based healing for serious medical conditions following reports linked to<br \/>\na religious crusade held in Nakuru.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a statement<br \/>\nissued by KMPDC Chief Executive Officer Dr. David Kariuki n Saturday, the<br \/>\nregulator said it had taken note of \u201crecent media reports and public discourse<br \/>\nconcerning claims of faith-based healing for serious medical conditions,<br \/>\nincluding HIV\/AIDS, cancer, blindness, deafness, muteness and physical<br \/>\ndisabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The council said<br \/>\nthe claims, which were attributed to certain medical practitioners, had<br \/>\ntriggered serious concerns around public health safety and professional ethics,<br \/>\nwarning that unverified statements by health professionals could endanger<br \/>\nlives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe council<br \/>\nunequivocally condemns such statements by medical practitioners, which are<br \/>\nbased on unverified claims,\u201d said Dr. Kariuki.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">KMPDC underscored<br \/>\nthat all medical practice in Kenya must adhere strictly to evidence-based<br \/>\nmedicine, stressing that treatments and interventions must be backed by<br \/>\nscientific proof, testing and regulatory approval.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cClaims of healing<br \/>\nfor chronic or life-threatening conditions, such as HIV\/AIDS or cancer, require<br \/>\nverifiable medical documentation and cannot be accepted without independent<br \/>\nverification by qualified healthcare professionals,\u201d the council said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The regulator<br \/>\nwarned that unsubstantiated claims, particularly when made by trained health<br \/>\nprofessionals, could mislead vulnerable patients and discourage them from<br \/>\ncontinuing proven medical therapies, potentially resulting in \u201cworsened health<br \/>\noutcomes, drug resistance, or loss of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">While<br \/>\nacknowledging the role of faith and spirituality in society, KMPDC cautioned<br \/>\nagainst substituting medical treatment with unverified practices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhile faith and<br \/>\nspiritual beliefs play an important role in many people&#8217;s lives, relying solely<br \/>\non unverified healing methods for serious illnesses can pose grave risks,\u201d noted<br \/>\nDr. Kariuki.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The council<br \/>\nstrongly advised members of the public not to abandon prescribed treatments for<br \/>\nconditions such as HIV\/AIDS, diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy and other chronic<br \/>\nillnesses, noting that doing so contradicts established public health<br \/>\nguidelines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">KMPDC also<br \/>\nannounced that investigations into the matter are ongoing in collaboration with<br \/>\nthe Ministry of Health and other regulatory agencies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cKMPDC is working<br \/>\nclosely with the Ministry of Health and other regulatory bodies to investigate<br \/>\nthese claims.
