{"id":408549,"date":"2026-09-03T13:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T13:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/408549\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T13:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T13:38:08","slug":"air-senegal-acquires-first-in-house-b737-800","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/408549\/","title":{"rendered":"Air S\u00e9n\u00e9gal acquires first in-house B737-800"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airlines\/SGG\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Air S\u00e9n\u00e9gal<\/a> (HC, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/6341\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dakar Blaise Diagne International<\/a>)  has acquired its first in-house <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/aircraft-variants\/B737800\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">B737-800<\/a> in a transaction fully financed and managed by the Senegalese government, the airline announced in a statement published by Dakar-based news agency Seneweb.<\/p>\n<p>The acquisition reflects the government&#8217;s commitment to expanding Air Senegal&#8217;s operational capabilities and improving its competitiveness in regional and international markets, the airline said. CEO Tidiane Ndiaye credited the purchase entirely to state support, saying it demonstrated confidence in the carrier&#8217;s growth prospects.<\/p>\n<p>Air Senegal did not disclose the aircraft&#8217;s identity, delivery date, or previous operator, or whether it will be owned outright or leased. ch-aviation has contacted the airline for more information. <\/p>\n<p>It said the B737-800 will serve as the official aircraft for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (October 31 to November 13), transporting the Olympic flame to Senegal ahead of the event. It will receive a special Dakar 2026 livery to promote the Games, the first Olympic event to be held on the African continent.<\/p>\n<p>The airline said the acquisition forms part of its long-term fleet modernisation strategy and broader efforts to build a stronger, more competitive national carrier while supporting domestic connectivity and economic development.<\/p>\n<p>During the first quarter of 2026, the Senegalese government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/news\/168559-govt-earmarked-24mn-for-two-air-senegal-aircraft-in-1q26\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">provided financial support<\/a> worth XOF27 billion West African francs (USD47.7 million) to Air S\u00e9n\u00e9gal through operating subsidies and investment transfers, half of which was earmarked for the acquisition of two aircraft.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/news\/160775-air-senegal-to-order-nine-b737-8s-with-six-options\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">In November 2025<\/a>, the airline committed to ordering nine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/aircraft-variants\/B007378\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">B737-8<\/a>s with a further six options directly from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airlines\/BOE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boeing<\/a> to support its regional and international expansion.<\/p>\n<p>Air S\u00e9n\u00e9gal currently wet leases two B737-800s from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airlines\/GJU\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GetJet Airlines<\/a> for regional flights to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/1036\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Abidjan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/372\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cotonou Cadjehoun<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/1983\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Conakry<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/2738\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Casablanca Mohammed V<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/1644\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tenerife Sur<\/a>, according to ADS-B data. It also wet leases one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/aircraft-variants\/B7720ER\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">B777-200ER<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airlines\/MWY\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MyWay Airlines<\/a> for its services to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/1798\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paris CDG<\/a>.
