{"id":4339,"date":"2026-01-05T06:14:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T06:14:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/4339\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T06:14:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T06:14:06","slug":"catholic-bishop-of-kitui-diocese-in-kenya-appointed-coadjutor-of-countrys-machakos-diocese","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/4339\/","title":{"rendered":"Catholic Bishop of Kitui Diocese in Kenya Appointed Coadjutor of Country\u2019s Machakos Diocese"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Acknowledging the legacy of Archbishop Muheria, who had been serving as Apostolic Administrator of Kitui Diocese, he added, \u201cI really feel unworthy to fit into his shoes but as they say, each one puts on their own shoes; I will just put on my shoes and seek to do my very best and leave the rest to God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During his Episcopal Ordination on 29 August 2020 at the grounds of St. Charles Lwanga School, Kitui, Bishop Mwongela outlined a pastoral vision rooted in humility and service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In his maiden speech as Bishop, he urged those overseeing various sectors in Kenya to embrace humility in their line of duty. \u201cYou are those chosen instruments to transform the world. Kindly earn greatness through humble service,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Mwongela emphasized that leadership must be measured not by status but by service, adding, \u201cOur dignity and greatness do not depend on what we are or what we have amassed but who we are to the people we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, Bishop Mwongela has also emerged as a strong voice on social and pastoral issues affecting Kenyan families and society.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">(Story continues below)<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4763d5xJc6k\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Prayer Day<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/Catholic-Women-Association-Kenya-100074987210746\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Catholic Women Association<\/a>\u00a0(CWA) Kenya at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/subukia.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Village of Mary<\/a>, the National Marian Shrine of Subukia in Nakuru Diocese in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aciafrica.org\/news\/10191\/catholic-bishop-in-kenya-concerned-about-unstable-marriages-urges-love-from-the-heart\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 2024<\/a>, he expressed concern about marital instability, saying, \u201cI am worried as a Bishop, when I see the marriages of young people, ten years or less, how some of them are unstable.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He urged couples to perseverance, stressing, \u201cMarriages should last forever. Addressing members of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/paulinesafrica.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pious Society of the Daughters of St. Paul<\/a>\u00a0(FSP\/Pauline Sisters) in Kenya in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aciafrica.org\/news\/10681\/catholic-bishop-in-kenya-decries-increasing-reading-apathy-urges-pauline-sisters-to-help-sustain-culture-of-reading\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 2024<\/a>, he lamented declining reading habits, observing, \u201cWe are losing the idea of reading culture.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He challenged Pauline Sisters to \u201cbring some creativity, bring some novelty in the work that you do\u201d to help sustain a culture of reading and listening.<\/p>\n<p>As he prepares to take up his new role in Machakos Diocese, his pastoral priorities of unity, humble service, evangelization, and engagement with social realities are expected to continue shaping his Episcopal ministry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>                    <a href=\"#\"><br \/>\n                      <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-radius: 50%; margin: 0; width: 75px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767593646_482_brand-color-black_1682600946.png\" alt=\"ACI Africa Staff\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n                    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>ACI Africa was founded in 2019.
