Bitok<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Education has officially released the&#13;<br \/>\nacademic calendar dates for the 2026 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>The comprehensive schedule details term dates for Basic&#13;<br \/>\nEducation Institutions and Diploma Teachers Training Colleges (DTTCs).<\/p>\n<p>Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok signed&#13;<br \/>\nthe circular, which was copied to Education CS Julius Ogamba, the Teachers&#13;<br \/>\nService Commission, Kenya National Examination Council and Council of Governors.<\/p>\n<p>The circular has been dispatched to all regional directors&#13;<br \/>\nof education, county directors of education and sub-county directors of&#13;<br \/>\neducation.<\/p>\n<p>Basic Education Institutions, which include pre-primary,&#13;<br \/>\nprimary, junior, senior, and secondary schools, will begin the year on January&#13;<br \/>\n5, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Term I will run for 13 weeks, closing on April 2, 2026.&#13;<br \/>\nStudents will enjoy a five-day half-term break from February 25 to March 1,&#13;<br \/>\n2026.<\/p>\n<p>The April holiday is set for three weeks, from April 7 to April&#13;<br \/>\n24, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Term II is scheduled to last 14 weeks, opening on April 27 and&#13;<br \/>\nconcluding on July 31, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>A second half term will take place between June 24 and June&#13;<br \/>\n28. This will be followed by a three-week August holiday, which ends on August&#13;<br \/>\n21.<\/p>\n<p>The final term, Term III, will be the shortest at nine&#13;<br \/>\nweeks. It is scheduled from \u00a0August 24 to&#13;<br \/>\nOctober 23, 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The circular also confirms the dates for all major national&#13;<br \/>\nexaminations. The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya&#13;<br \/>\nIntermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) are slated for five days.<\/p>\n<p>They will run from October 26, 2026. The Kenya Junior School&#13;<br \/>\nEducation Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education&#13;<br \/>\nAssessment (KPLEA) will also begin on October 26. <\/p>\n<p>They will run for seven days.&#13;<br \/>\nThe Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will take place over three&#13;<br \/>\nweeks. KCSE is scheduled from November 2 to November 20, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Students will then begin their long end-of-year break. The&#13;<br \/>\nDecember holiday is scheduled to last 10 weeks. It will run from October 26,&#13;<br \/>\n2026, until \u00a0January 1, 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, the Diploma Teachers Training Colleges will&#13;<br \/>\nfollow a similar schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Their Term III, however, will extend until November 6, 2026,&#13;<br \/>\nlasting 11 weeks. Their December holiday starts on November 9.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry has also maintained an existing restriction for&#13;<br \/>\nsecondary schools.<\/p>\n<p>The circular states clearly, \u201cActivities and visits to&#13;<br \/>\nsecondary schools in third term 2026 remain banned as per the earlier&#13;<br \/>\ncirculars.\u201d The document was directed to all institutions of basic education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius K.
