Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has denied claims that he drew a
\nfirearm during an encounter with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino at a restaurant in
\nNairobi\u2019s Kilimani area.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Alai said the incident occurred while the
\ntwo were seated at separate tables.<\/p>\n
He said Owino approached him and initiated
\na conversation, which he said he was not comfortable engaging in.<\/p>\n
According to Alai, he repeatedly told the MP that he was not
\ninterested in any political position, despite what he described as Owino\u2019s
\ninsistence.<\/p>\n
\u201cI told him that I\u2019m not comfortable greeting him. He
\nstarted to push my head, insisting he would \u2018arrange\u2019 me in Nairobi City County
\nand claiming the Nairobi Governor\u2019s seat was already secured,\u201d Alai said.<\/p>\n
Alai added that a colleague at the table had jokingly
\nsuggested he could be offered a finance docket, but he maintained that he was
\nnot seeking any position. <\/p>\n
He said the situation escalated when he asked Owino
\nto leave.<\/p>\n
The MCA acknowledged that he was carrying a firearm on his
\nwaist at the time but denied drawing it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urged him that we should end the issue at that time. I
\nstood up and pushed him back. There was a gun on my waist, but I did not draw
\nit. The person sitting next to me noticed the gun because I was only wearing a
\nshirt, and later accused me of drawing it. If there is video evidence, let it
\nshow where I drew a gun on him,\u201d Alai said.<\/p>\n
MP Owino gave a different account of the incident.<\/p>\n
According to Owino, he had gone to the restaurant for a
\nmeeting with a senior clergyman after releasing his security detail for the
\nChristmas holidays. <\/p>\n
He said the meeting lasted about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n
He said that as he prepared to leave at around 3:40 pm, he noticed
\na group of people seated at a nearby table, among them the MCA.<\/p>\n
Owino alleged that Alai accused him of being behind social
\nmedia attacks on the MCA\u2019s wife, an allegation he denied, saying he did not
\nknow her and had no reason to involve family members in politics.<\/p>\n
The MP claimed that the MCA became aggressive during the
\nencounter. He further alleged that Alai pushed him and drew a firearm, and that
\nhe was struck on the chest and jaw in the presence of other patrons.<\/p>\n
Owino also alleged that Alai later poured a glass of water
\non his face, drawing attention from other people in the restaurant.<\/p>\n
He said he left the restaurant to avoid further
\nconfrontation and proceeded to Kilimani Police Station, where he reported the
\nmatter.<\/p>\n
\u201cI take this incident very seriously,\u201d Owino said,
\ndescribing it as an attack on his person and a threat to his life. He called on
\nauthorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action in accordance
\nwith the law.<\/p>\n
Kilimani OCPD Patricia Yegon, on January 4, confirmed that the MP and his alleged
\nassailant reported the incident, and investigations commenced immediately.<\/p>\n
“We are currently at the scene reviewing the CCTV and
