Vehicle catches fire\u00a0near the Southern Bypass entrance B\/SCREENGRAB<\/p>\n

Traffic along the Nairobi Expressway was briefly disrupted on Thursday morning after a Land Rover experienced mechanical problems and caught fire near the Southern Bypass entrance B.<\/p>\n

According to Moja Expressway Company, the incident occurred at approximately 9:04 am at K13.<\/p>\n

Patrol teams, working closely with the Kenya Police Service, safely evacuated all passengers and extinguished the blaze, ensuring no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

Motorists were advised to approach the area with caution while teams worked to clear debris from the roadway.<\/p>\n

\u201cMotorists are advised to drive with caution at K13 near the Southern Bypass Entrance B as our team clears debris following a successfully contained vehicle fire. Your safety is our priority,\u201d Moja Expressway said.<\/p>\n

The Expressway company urged drivers to report any mechanical issues immediately to their rescue team via 0111039888 and reiterated the service hotline 0111039777 for assistance.<\/p>\n

Authorities praised the quick response that prevented the incident from escalating and urged all motorists to exercise care, especially when encountering vehicle breakdowns.<\/p>\n

The incident comes barely a week after a fuel tanker caught fire, following an accident along the Southern Bypass.<\/p>\n

The incident happened under a bridge on the road on Saturday, killing a driver.<\/p>\n

The deceased was one of the drivers of the two trucks involved in the collision, which occurred near the Swaminarayan Tunnel Bridge behind the Carnivore Restaurant.<\/p>\n

Another driver was rescued and rushed to the hospital, Lang\u2019ata Sub-County Police Commander Pius Mwanthi confirmed.<\/p>\n

The accident involved a lorry carrying bales of flour and a fuel tanker. Following the collision, the fuel tanker slid into the bridge and ignited.<\/p>\n

Witnesses said some road users, including bodaboda riders, had rushed to the scene to scoop the fuel that had spilt after the accident.<\/p>\n

Police warned that fuel-related accidents pose serious risks.<\/p>\n

Similar incidents in the past have led to multiple fatalities, including a 2009 tanker accident in Sachangwan, Nakuru County, that killed more than 100 people.<\/p>\n
