{"id":5406,"date":"2026-01-05T16:41:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T16:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/5406\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T16:41:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T16:41:06","slug":"pastor-wounded-in-attack-at-church-site-in-uganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/5406\/","title":{"rendered":"Pastor wounded in attack at church site in Uganda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/3890sw_300w_1h_1x_1y.jpg\" alt=\"Muslims attacked Pastor Joseph Kanooni in Kaliro, Uganda on Dec. 21, 2025.\"\/>Muslims attacked Pastor Joseph Kanooni in Kaliro, Uganda on Dec. 21, 2025.\u00a0Morning Star News<\/p>\n<p>Five Muslims wielding sharp objects attacked a pastor in eastern Uganda on Dec. 21, seriously injuring him, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Joseph Kanooni of Revival Mission Centre Church was attacked in Kaliro at about 6 p.m. while alone inside his church compound preparing for an all-night prayer service, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Five Muslim men brandishing sticks and sharp objects confronted and assaulted Pastor Kanooni, accusing him of \u201cmisleading their children\u201d by encouraging them to attend church, he said. The pastor identified two of the assailants as Ismael Mukulu and Fahadi Kuluza, whom he had engaged in public religious debates during evangelistic events and had previously threatened him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey attacked me suddenly while I was working inside the church,\u201d Pastor Kanooni told Morning Star News from his hospital bed. \u201cI tried to protect myself, but I was overwhelmed and later lost consciousness. When I regained awareness, I found myself receiving treatment in hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Church members who later arrived at the premises said they found him severely wounded behind the church building. He sustained deep cuts on his hand and back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had brought him food because he was working alone,\u201d said church member Solomon Kiseka, one of those who found him. \u201cWhen we couldn\u2019t find him inside, we searched around and discovered him injured and calling for help. We immediately arranged transport and rushed him to a nearby clinic for first aid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Kanooni was later transferred to a hospital for further treatment and was in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>Police in Eastern Uganda were searching for five suspects following the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Local church leaders condemned the attack and called on authorities to ensure the suspects are arrested and brought to justice. They also appealed for calm among communities as investigations continue.<\/p>\n<p>Police had not released an official statement at this writing, but sources said the case had been reported and investigations were underway. The suspects remained at large.<\/p>\n<p>The attack was the latest of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/morningstarnews.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=7ec6d7eb2533a90581f839110&amp;id=95cd8d3618&amp;e=d656281a7e\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">many<\/a>\u00a0instances of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star News has documented.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda\u2019s constitution and other laws provide for religious freedom, including the right to propagate one\u2019s faith and convert from one faith to another.
