The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project is on track
\nfor completion by July 2026, with construction progress reaching
\n79%, according to Tanzanian Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi,
\nspeaking on January 6, while en route to Tanga for a joint site
\nvisit by Uganda and Tanzania delegations.<\/p>\n
\nEACOP, a 1,443-km heated crude oil pipeline linking Uganda\u2019s
\nLake Albert oilfields to the Tanzanian port of Tanga, is a flagship
\nregional infrastructure project aimed at enabling Uganda\u2019s entry
\ninto the global oil export market.<\/p>\n
\nConstruction has advanced steadily despite earlier delays linked
\nto financing, procurement and environmental opposition, with
\ndevelopers maintaining that the project remains within its revised
\ndelivery timeline.<\/p>\n
\nThe project is being developed by a consortium led by
\nTotalEnergies (Euronext: TTE), alongside China National Offshore
\nOil Company (SSE:600938), the Uganda National Oil Company and the
\nTanzania Petroleum Development Corporation.<\/p>\n
\nOn the upstream side, readiness is being driven by progress at
\nTilenga and Kingfisher, Uganda\u2019s two flagship Lake Albert
\ndevelopments. Tilenga, operated by TotalEnergies (Euronext:TTE),
\nand Kingfisher, led by China National Offshore Oil Company
\n(SSE:600938), are designed to supply crude to EACOP once the
\npipeline is commissioned.<\/p>\n
\nOnce completed, the pipeline is expected to transport up to
\n216,000bpd of Ugandan crude to international markets, underpinning
\nUganda\u2019s long-delayed oil production start-up and generating
\ntransit revenues for Tanzania.<\/p>\n
\nIn terms of costs, EACOP is estimated to require about $5bn in
\ntotal capital expenditure, making it one of the most expensive
\ninfrastructure projects ever undertaken in East Africa. The Tilenga
\nand Kingfisher upstream developments are each budgeted at several
\nbillion dollars, lifting total investment across Uganda\u2019s oil
\nexport system well above $10bn.<\/p>\n
