President William
\nRuto has officially announced that the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC)
\nwill be listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) this January,
\nopening the door for ordinary Kenyans and investors to buy shares and
\nbenefit from its ownership.<\/p>\n

According to the
\nHead of State, the listing is part of his administration\u2019s broader
\nplan to unlock value from public assets, deepen Kenya\u2019s capital
\nmarkets and allow citizens to directly benefit from the country\u2019s
\neconomic growth.<\/p>\n

Ruto urged Kenyans
\nto take advantage of the opportunity, saying the move would enable
\nordinary citizens to own a stake in one of the country\u2019s most
\nprofitable state corporations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have said the
\nshares will be sold to everyone. Even if you have Sh200 or Sh300,
\ncome and buy, so that when profits are announced, you are part of it.
\nYou take your share and use it to grow your business,\u201d the
\nPresident said during an event in West Pokot.<\/p>\n

He stated that this
\nwas about giving Kenyans a chance to invest, grow their wealth and
\nshare in the benefits of national development.<\/p>\n

KPC plays a critical
\nrole in the transportation and storage of petroleum products across
\nthe country and the wider region, making it one of the most strategic
\nassets in the energy sector.<\/p>\n

Ruto\u2019s
\nannouncement follows earlier commitments by his administration to
\npartially privatise KPC through a stock market listing.<\/p>\n

In previous remarks,
\nRuto said the government intended to sell part of its shareholding in
\nselected state-owned enterprises to raise capital, improve efficiency
\nand reduce reliance on public borrowing. \n<\/p>\n

He identified KPC as
\none of the firms suitable for listing due to its strong balance sheet
\nand consistent profitability.<\/p>\n

Last year, Ruto said
\nthe listing would also help revive activity at the NSE by introducing
\na large, high-value company that could attract both local and foreign
\ninvestors.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want our
\ncapital markets to grow and become a strong engine for investment and
\njob creation,\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n

He confirmed that
\nthe listing would allow both local and international investors,
\nincluding East African partners such as Uganda, to co-invest in KPC,
\nexpanding regional participation in strategic infrastructure. \n<\/p>\n

Treasury officials
\nled by Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi have previously explained that
\nlisting KPC would raise funds to support the company\u2019s expansion
\nplans.<\/p>\n

This includes
\nregional infrastructure projects and diversification into related
\nenergy services, while improving transparency and corporate
\ngovernance through public ownership.<\/p>\n

The government has
\nalso indicated it will retain a significant stake in the company to
\nsafeguard national interests, even as shares are offered to the
\npublic.<\/p>\n

The planned KPC
\nlisting forms part of a wider privatisation and economic reform
\nprogramme aimed at boosting private-sector participation,
\nstrengthening public finances and expanding opportunities for Kenyans
\nto invest in the country\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

If completed as
\nscheduled, the KPC share offer will mark one of the most significant
\nlistings at the NSE in recent years, signalling renewed confidence in
\nKenya\u2019s capital markets.<\/p>\n

When a company is NSE, it means the company\u2019s shares are
\nofficially admitted for trading on the stock market, allowing the
\npublic to buy and sell ownership stakes in that company.<\/p>\n

In simple terms, it means the company becomes partly owned by the
\npublic.<\/p>\n

The company sells a portion of its shares to investors through an
\nInitial Public Offering (IPO) or a later listing. \n<\/p>\n

Anyone who buys the shares becomes a shareholder and part-owner of
\nthe company.<\/p>\n

Once listed, the company\u2019s shares are traded on the NSE on
\ntrading days. \n<\/p>\n

Investors can buy or sell shares through licensed stockbrokers at
\nmarket prices.<\/p>\n

Listing also helps a company raise money to fund expansion, repay
\ndebt, invest in infrastructure, or improve operations, without
\nborrowing.<\/p>\n

Being listed boosts a company\u2019s public profile and trust, making
\nit easier to attract investors, lenders, and business partners.<\/p>\n

Investors may benefit through dividends (a share of of the
\ncompany\u2019s profits and capital gains if the share prices rises.<\/p>\n

A listed company must follow strict rules set by the Capital
\nMarkets Authority (CMA) and NSE.<\/p>\n

This includes publishing audited financial statements, making
\npublic important information (profits, losses, major decisions) and
