Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime
\nAffairs Hassan Joho has announced plans to mark the 81st birthday of late
\nopposition leader Raila Odinga, describing him as a symbol of resilience whose
\nideals continue to shape generations of leaders.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued ahead of the event, Joho said leaders
\nand supporters would gather on Wednesday to honour and celebrate Odinga\u2019s life,
\npolitical journey and enduring influence on Kenya\u2019s democratic struggle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Wednesday, we will be coming together to honour and
\ncelebrate Baba Rt. Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga @ 80+1,\u201d Joho said.<\/p>\n

The Cabinet Secretary said Raila\u2019s life story offers
\nenduring lessons on perseverance and purpose, noting that his long political
\njourney was defined by sacrifice and determination rather than personal
\ncomfort.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis journey teaches us that resilience is not the absence
\nof struggle but the courage to walk through it with purpose,\u201d Joho said.<\/p>\n

Joho said Raila\u2019s leadership legacy extends beyond his
\npersonal achievements, arguing that his vision has been sustained through the
\nmany leaders and citizens he has mentored over the decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis vision did not end with him, it took root in the minds
\nand hearts of those he mentored,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to Joho, the former Prime Minister\u2019s ideals
\ncontinue to influence public life through the values he instilled in younger
\ngenerations, particularly his emphasis on justice, accountability and
\npeople-centred leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn us, his ideals continue to breathe, reminding us that
\ntrue leadership is measured not by years but by the generations it awakens,\u201d
\nJoho added.<\/p>\n

Raila Odinga, a long-serving opposition leader and former
\nprime minister, has been a central figure in Kenya\u2019s political history for
\ndecades, playing a key role in the country\u2019s push for multiparty democracy and
\nconstitutional reforms.<\/p>\n

He died on October 15, 2025.<\/p>\n

Before his death, he was the party leader of the Orange
\nDemocratic Movement (ODM) party.<\/p>\n

Joho served under him as Deputy Party leader, alongside Cooperatives
\nCS Wycliffe Oparanya.<\/p>\n

Joho\u2019s remarks come as political leaders from across the
\ncountry prepare to join Odinga\u2019s family, allies and supporters in commemorating
\nhis birthday and reflecting on his influence on Kenya\u2019s political landscape,
\nover the years<\/p>\n

The planned celebration is expected to highlight Odinga\u2019s
\ncontributions to democratic governance and his role in shaping political
\nconsciousness across generations, with speakers expected to underscore the
\nenduring relevance of his ideals in contemporary leadership discourse.<\/p>\n
