Survivors of the fatal road accident along the
\nKarai\u2013Naivasha stretch have claimed that the driver of the vehicle involved was recklessly driving and ignoring repeated pleas from passengers to slow down, as
\nauthorities continue investigations into the crash that claimed at least nine
\nlives.<\/p>\n

Speaking from hospital, one survivor who spoke to NTV said
\npassengers became increasingly alarmed by the driver\u2019s speed but were unable to
\ncompel him to change his driving despite multiple warnings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was reckless driving, and there was no way we could
\ncomplain, and he wasn\u2019t listening,\u201d the survivor claimed. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut we thank God even though we have lost one kid.
\nPersonally, I\u2019m not okay. My head and my leg hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n

The survivor further appealed to the transport company
\noperating the vehicle to review its safety practices, particularly the use of a
\nsingle driver on long-distance routes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we are asking Greenline company, because it is the
\nvehicle we used, they need to have at least two drivers, but if they continue
\nwith only one, we will continue losing lives,\u201d the survivor opined.<\/p>\n

Another survivor echoed similar concerns, claiming the driver
\nfailed to heed passengers\u2019 warnings as the vehicle sped along the busy highway.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe driver was speeding and we tried telling him to slow
\ndown but he wasn\u2019t listening to any of us,\u201d the survivor claimed.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred on a section of the Karai\u2013Naivasha
\nroad that police describe as a high-risk area, particularly during periods of
\nheavy traffic. <\/p>\n

Law enforcement officers said congestion and speeding remain
\nmajor challenges on the route, which serves as a key link between Naivasha and
\nNairobi.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn this road there are over-speeding vehicles,\u201d a police
\nofficer said. \u201cThe big challenge at that time is that there was more traffic
\nflow to Nairobi.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emergency responders rushed the injured to nearby hospitals,
\nwhile traffic police secured the scene and launched investigations to establish
\nthe exact cause of the crash. <\/p>\n

Authorities said the findings will inform any further
\naction, including possible charges or enforcement measures.<\/p>\n

The crash occurred at around 2 a.m. on Monday, January 5,
\ninvolving a bus and a 14-seater matatu, according to police.<\/p>\n

Seven people, including two minors, died at the scene, while
\ntwo others later succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment in the
\nhospital.<\/p>\n

Several other passengers sustained injuries and were taken
\nto Naivasha District Hospital for medical attention.<\/p>\n

Police said the bus was travelling from Nakuru to Nairobi at
\nthe time of the accident, while the matatu was heading in the opposite
\ndirection.\u00a0<\/p>\n
